First, I WILL be taking her to vet, but can't until the first of the month, just thought I might get some ideas from experienced people in the meantime.
Second, she is 16 years old, and in rapidly failing health over the past few months. Six months ago she still acted like a puppy. Has a heart condition, as well as being almost blind, deaf in one ear, hard of hearing in the other, and has several molars, but otherwise no teeth.
About two weeks ago I noticed a fatty tumor like growth on her underside on top of the rib cage. Since then, not only has it grown some, but she has developed similar growths on each side, about 3 inches long and an inch wide, noticeable and growing. I am thinking it must be a cancer ... any other suggestions?

Thank you all for your kind and compassionate answers. I am also thinking it may be time to say goodbye, and am preparing for that. Will call vet tomorrow and see if he will see her on credit. Again, thank you for being so kind.

no matter what...i would say it is time to start preparing yourself to say goodbye, giving God thanks that He is giving you the time to do it in. as for the lumps...what i know about cancer is that the difference between malign and benign (non cancer) is that malign grows noticably fast whereas benigns growth is hardly noticable. i would probably then guess that it is cancer. i would also do that little one and yourself an immense kindness, and if the vet agrees that it is cancer, let the baby go then, dignified, peaceful, and not suffering. it is just a thought

There is a good possibility that it is cancer because of the quick growth. Maybe check with the vets office and see if you can set up a payment plan if you don't have the money to take her right now they might be able to work something out with you so you can get her in sooner. I hope that everything works out for you and your dog.

Could be cancer. There isn't much me or anyone else could tell you better than a vet. Just get her to the vet as soon as you can and they will tell you what they are and the prognosis.

It is probably cancer. Take her to the vet. Don't wait until the first of the month. It may be time to say goodbye to your furry friend. Please don't let her suffer.

at this age, tumors are the best guess. I would be ready to hear "Let's put her to sleep and let her rest in peace" after all she did live a long life and sure a loving life.
