i have tried in the past to replace it but can never seem to find it if anyone could help me out that would be great thanx.

yes i have the 2.3 litter and its a pain in the butt to get to any tips?

According to the above link, (your owners manual - page 196) the engine air filter is designed as a lifetime part & should not need to be changed.

I work for Ford, and the air filter is NOT replacable. YOu have to buy the complete filter assy just to get a new filter. This is a fact.

i own a shop,and if you,ll follow the large tube that comes off the engine ,it goes to a box with clips on it ,un clip all of these and lift up on i t and the filter will be in under it,all you do is remove it,and install the new one,its a pretty simple job to do just make sure you get all the clips back on real good,and that's it your done,good luck,i hope this help,s.

2.3's have a filter that doesnt need to be changed. kinda cool huh. now if the auto mfg's could ever make an engine that doesnt need the oil changed

I think that you have the model with the permanent filter that is hidden inside the drivers side fender
