How do you deal with social anxiety? Sometimes when I am put on the spot, or feel uncomfortable, I begin to sweat at the forehead and armpits. I don't even know why I am so uptight sometimes, I am easy going and have a good sense of humour. Suggestions?

You play video games and have a virtual life, it's better than a real one anyway.

I use to feel the same way. I would get nervous and not really know why. I changed this by doing some extra things to relax myself. When I wake up every morning I spend just about 20 min stretching and breathing (kind of a yoga I make up) and while doing this I plan out my day. Try taking a nice relaxing bath maybe once a week. Make more alone time for yourself so you can fix what is not so good in your life that is making you unsocial. Also praying has helped me. Good luck. Also always think positive and smile.:) You will feel better.

Social Anxiety Disorder (formerly called social phobia) is the largest anxiety disorder, and the third largest mental health care problem in the world today.

The Social Anxiety Institute (non-profit) helps people with social anxiety recover...and move forward with life.
Social anxiety is a fully treatable condition and CAN be overcome. Active, structured cognitive-behavioral groups have been in progress since 1994.

My answer may be off the mark, dependent on how badly you are afflicted (it seems like not too tremendously). When i get nervous socially i try to focus on banal things, like patterns in the wallpaper and what i would like to eat in an hour and the plotline of a book i am reading. This sort of activity tends to calm me down. Distracting myself.

It sounds like you may have Agoraphobia. That's when you just don't like being in public. Since you're already having physical symptoms, then you should see a doc to get medicine. But if you're just stage fright (you don't have to be on an actual STAGE) then that's perfectly normal for a shy person.

I feel the same way....just smile, lighten up a bit, and after you get to know the people/person your around, believe me you'll feel better. Espeacially once you know the situation better.

Just barricade yourself in your own hell that is your appartment, like me! Just kidding... I'm not THAT bad... working on getting out! Pills? I'm taking a pill... not doing so well with it... Wipe your forhead... Only push yourself a little and don't be too hard on yourself.
