It doesn't offer a sufficient substitute for what most people seem to get from religion - AN EXCUSE TO STAY IMMATURE.

For example, Christianity allows for a person to be illogical, to be cowardly, irresponsible, weak, evil, in a word to be FLAWED, with no real repercussions, so long as they ask for forgiveness. In any other context, telling someone it's okay to keep making mistakes as long they say they are sorry would be a recipe for disaster. It wouldn't work in the workplace, in a relationship, in the eyes of the law, or in parenting. About the only place it would work, briefly, is in CHILDHOOD.

Atheism requires a tremendous amount of logic, courage, responsibility, and strength from within - qualities of maturity that many adults lack.

Christians have given themselves a pass to remain immature their entire lives because they believe they become adults in the NEXT life. Imagine a world where children never grew up and then look around.

We aren't mature enough for atheism.

Yet.

Nonsense -- in the gospels, over and over again Christ illustrates in His parables that those who do not struggle against sin and bear fruit of thankfulness for their salvation will be rejected just as the gardener will cut off the vine that bears no fruit -- true the fruit we bear in our lives is terribly flawed and incomplete, and is itself a gift of grace -- a true follower of Christ can only be one if he/she struggles against sin, and in spiritual anguish confesses to God how they continually fall short in the effort, but each day begin anew and press on to the heavenward prize God has called us to

More than that it makes ppl believe they are incapable of doing anything. They think that are powerless without Jesus, they can do no good without Jesus. This is an excuse to not take responsibility and live life in a cloudy haze where you don't question things around you. A condition where guilt upon guilt is thrown onto you for doing things that cannot be denied by your very nature. Christianity is the disease that stunned the growth of man and made us the sad, confused, scared little ppl we see killing each other on the news...Thank you Jesus...

I am an Atheist and i feel sometimes like a Child in this huge world. Yes Atheism by it self offers no set rules or answers. Just a different kinda search for them. The biggest flow with atheism is the lack of explanation for that first spark of life.

Atheist.

May I offer what Jesus said about that?

Jesus talked very little about Christians being forgiven by God.

Jesus talked a lot about what everyone should do to clear the way to going to Heaven.

Jesus said, "If you do not forgive others, then, your father in Heaven will not forgive you."

That is the clearest verse in the Bible. But is the most difficult instruction to do. Very seldom do Churches preach that verse. Why? It seem most folks (including church members) feel they have a right to hold a grudge against someone who has hurt them.

(I must forgive them for it, but most preachers only preach what is acceptable to their membership. If a preacher gave a sermon based on Jesus' instructions of requiring to forgive others, he might lose those in his membership who insist they have a right to hold a grudge against certain particular people.)

Even Jesus' disciples had trouble with that instruction as to how to clear the way to get to Heaven.

So Jesus said that we must be born again into the spirit of changing our justice system. We must change our feelings that we have a right to hold a grudge, we must be born into the spirit of forgiving others, and be convinced that in the long run to harmony forgiving others is essential. We must work on it until we do not have it in our personality to hold a grudge.

Maybe you don't understand. It's not about maturity. It's about critical thought and the desire to step outside the religious bubble and ask questions and get answers instead of being told "This is God, He is our savior, you will go to heaven as long as you are forgiven" and rolling over like a dog. Trust me, I have been there.

Atheism doesn't require anything but not believeing in something. It's easy to not believe. Knowing the god and goddess is a blessing. If you don't like it, tough. Don't worry about what I do.

Maturity means you're comfortable with what you believe and you don't care what other people think.

I'm Wiccan, I don't care what you think. But obviously it bothers you I believe in a god and a goddesses. Tough.
