i started taking (OTC) sleeping pills a while ago because i was having a lot of trouble falling asleep and staying asleep. but lately when i take them, it takes me up to 2 or 3 hours after i've taken them to feel the effects of the pill, when before it only took about 30 minutes for me to start feeling relaxed enough to just fall asleep. is my body becoming immune to the drugs in the pills?

Yes! You're body has become immune to it and you would need higher doses for it to work. I had the same problem and had to get a prescription for a sleep aid from my Dr.

Sleeping pills may prescribed for a short time in case of a serious illness .Long term usage of sleeping pills is to be avoided , since they can be addictive. More details and information about pills at

I can't fathom the greed that my eyes have been recently opened up to! I guess some have a way of life that I don't understand. I would be a happy girl if I have a roof over my head, food in my stomach and am able to pay my bills. To see that largess to which some have become accustomed blows my mind!

Maybe the pills were not effective for you in the first place, and you just thought they were and you believed you were tired. Or you maybe are being to active at night lately and your adrenaline and brain are still in comotion and you take the pills wide awake.

Both are logical guesses.

I would start taking another brand or different type of sleeping pill. And if that doesn't work consult a doctor.

Probably. That happened to my grandmother, after years of using the same pills, they didn't cause any effect on her, so she needed to change them or increase the dose.

more than likely, try not taking them and altering sleep routine. such as no exercise before bed, cut out or back on caffeine, include exercise daily, no noise like t.v. or music and try possibly some meditation and relaxation exercises. counting backwards from 100 over and over till i fall asleep works for me.
