I just asked this question but I don't think I got my point accross correctly....and first and foremost an answer from a medical professional would be greatly appreciated...So I went to the ER last night for back pain I have been having for months and nothing OTC was helping, but I was prescribed to Percocet, and I want to know how I request the same medication from my Dr. as this is the medication that has been able to help me relieve my back pain, as even muscle relaxers don't work. Please help!

I suffered back pain from two discs that "popped" a few years ago. I understand the desire for painkillers. However, you also need physical therapy to fix the problem. I had a physical therapist trained in the Jones Method, which I thought was wonderful (way better than the PT who put me in traction). They can also instruct you in exercizes to help heal and strengthen your back.
Drugs are not the end-all, so be careful not to fixate on that point, especially to a doctor, you'll sound like a seeker.
The biggest problem with pain medication and pack pain is that if you don't feel the pain, you don't know if you are doing something that is hurting your back worse. Temporary relief can lead to bigger problems down the road. It is too easy to bend the wrong way or try to lift something that you should not, if you do not feel the discomfort that is your body's signal for you to stop. Then your prescription will run out, and you will be worse off than before.
You didn't say what sort of back problems you have. If it is chronic tension in the musculature of your back, you might benefit from a series of visits to a masseuse. But, if it is in your skeletal system, in your spine itself, then obviously muscle relaxants won't do anything to help you. You have to be very careful with your back... most importantly, you do not want any damage to your spinal cord.
Take care of yourself!

When you went to the ER, they gave you the pain medication to help until you have opportunity to see your doctor, get checked over, and a proper diagnosis.
Percocet is not what you need to use long term, at least not until your doctor has made a definite diagnosis and found the reason for the pain.
This medication is highly addictive and you don't need to add another problem to the one you already have.

This prescription has to be written, they cannot call it in. Your doctor will probable want to see you before prescribing such an addictive drug. You need to find out what is causing the pain, fix that, and then no more pain. In the mean time hopefully your doctor will prescribe what works which it sounds like percocet works. Unfortunatley most doctors are not very apt to prescibe this for long term use.

If you take those pills for too long you will become constipated like you never believed possible. Percocets are highly addictive. It is made from opium just like heroin.
You need to find the reason why your back hurts and fix it not destroy your liver with pills.
