has over 300 in the state of Ohio, USA.

This is a general hint. Even though you go in through YA Canada, YA Australia, YA UK or YA USA, all of the questions go into one big "pot" and get read by everyone in the world who speaks English. Most of the people here are in the UK and USA, but you sometimes get questions and answers from people who worry about kangaroos eating their roses. So - put a nation, or, better yet, if you are asking about a specific individual, a nation and a state / province in all of your questions. It will help people help you.

With common names, there isn't any guarantee that you are related.
Using a broad broad analogy...
the surname Baker started in the 1300's (more or less) in England, and was based on occupation. John was a baker in London; William was a baker in another town. They both became known as Baker, but were not biologically related at all.
In the 1600's a descendent from John migrated to Virginia. In the 1870's, a descendent from William moved to Boston. If William's kids do their homework, they will know that they are descended from William, not the Baker line in Virginia.
The only way to be certain that you are RELATED to anyone, is to research your personal lineage... you to your parents, parents to grandparents, so forth. "proving" each generation, as you go. Once you find that you ARE descended from John Crabtree of Virginia, you will find you are related to those who have also done their homework, and are blood descendents from that person.
Some people find it boring and tedious. Others find it fascinating.
