My female cat is in heat right now...i want her to get on with her famale cat instinct but I heard that it hurts them. Help.

Yes. In a cat breeders' book, it recommends having a special room for cats to breed in; with high shelves for the boy cat to jump onto afterwards. This is because the girl cat will be so mad that she will attack him for putting his barbed penis in her cooter.

Yes, all male cats have them, even the big cats like lions or tigers. That is what stimulates the cat's ovaries to release eggs for fertilization. That's also why the female will turn around and give the male a smack in the face after mating. I can imagine (although I'd rather not) that this thorn thing hurts. Not very romantic, but that'a how it is. Maybe soft music and candlelight would help.

Spikes no. Barbs, yes. They are very small at the tip of the penis and they do not shoot out they are always there. The barbs stimulate the female to ovulate during mating since the only time female cats ovulate is during mating. They don't really scream. More like yowl. It is the same type of yowling heard when she goes into heat. Sorry don't have a site to give you for reference. You can take my word for it. I have seen the barbs and had to study feline anatomy, physiology and reproduction.

my vet once told me that he was amazed that cats could even do it so to speak because the toms penis faces backwards and has barbs
cat sex is a bit of a shock to the human eye but all three of my cats are neutered and they do it in the lounge regularly
