What else can I do? Any words that you found particularly comforting when you lost a pet? Or any websites that helped you during the grief? I've been there myself so I understand how hard it is for her but I wish there was more that I could do....

I lost my Puppy Leah to cancer last Monday, I am devastated. Leah was only just 18 months old and our first family pet. The whole family is grief struck.

What we have done is made a plot of garden in our back yard for Leah, we went out bought new fresh soil and mulch and have planted a beautiful white rose bush surrounded by flowers what are pink and white. I have placed a little statue there of a dog (even tho it is not her breed type statue as couldnt get one) and I have had a plaque made.. We go out and water the garden's new flowers and we call it Leah's garden. This could be a good thing to help your griend, maybe even get it started for her and let her take over. If your friend gets her dogs ashes back (as we have) it will be a good place for her to spend time talking to her parted pet.

When my beloved Tabby died at 13 years old, I was devastated, slept for days. My husband suggested organizing Tabbys pictures through the years, so we did that and cried some more. Then he found these scrapbook kits at the hallmark store to make a memory album for a cat or dog. Everything was there that you needed except the paste. Working through that labor of love for days, mind you taking many breaks to cry, helped me so much. I saw all the happy times and then the sad times, I never really knew how quickly his kidneys were failing him until I got to those last few pictures, how poorly he looked. But I needed that because I had done what i should have for my guy. Now 7 years later I have my favorite memories of him that I still look at alot and I am so glad I did it.
You are a good person, maybe this will help her...it did help me!!

Some veterinary clinics have bereavement counselors on staff to help in these situations. Perhaps making a card or personalized framed momento of her lost pet's picture with the Rainbow Bridge poem on it would be nice. There are a few websites out there that deal with pet loss... http://petloss.com/

Be there for her! Let her talk about her pet, and just be there to support and comfort her.

** Just read Cath's post above mine.... AWESOME idea!!!! Very neat tribute. I'm sorry for your loss too!!! **

The best thing you can do is just be there for her, let her know that she can talk to you at anytime. It will take time and comforter from friends.

All you can really do is be there for your friend. At this point I think that anything you say is going to make her sad. But be there for her when she is ready to talk about her pet.

the Rainbow Bridge is awsome...my vet sent it to me when my ferret died. I gave me a lot of comfort.
Good of you to tell her about the "Bridge"
