I read this one somewhere and thought it to be very clever.

Leutenant Bersham of the Royal Army had been convicted at a court martial and sentenced to die. He would be allowed one last statement that would choose his method of execution. If the statement that he said were true he would be hung, if it were false he would be shot.
After his statement was made the leutenant was released.
What was the statement that saved his life?

Lieutenant Bersham says " I am dying"

this statement is not true because he has stilled to be executed
this statement is not false as he would be executed

thus the statement is neither true nor false thereby leading to his release...

The Lieutenant simply said: "God Exists", and, with no concrete evidence to decide whether the statement was true or false, he was released until the day came that the truthfulness of his answer could be determined, at which time he would be hung or shot. The day never came.

either, "I will die by shooting" because if they shoot him he will be telling the truth but if they hang him then he would be lying. Or my other answer is, "I always tell lies" because you cannot tell if the statement he said is true because he said he always tells lies.

i will b shot because if he was going to be shot then that would be true so it couldnt be. If he was going to be hanged then wat he said would be false and that couldnt work. This is why he should reply i am going to get shot.

Did he say, 'I always tell lies', or 'I never tell the truth', something like that.
If he says 'I always tell lies', then he's lying, therefore he's telling the truth.
It's a paradox.
