As a 16 year old girl, I want to have a nice, all-over tan to impress the guys; and to boast my self-confidence.
I'm having a pool-party this 3 day weekend, and will be wearing a bikini. In order to tan more evenly, my older sister said I should try tanning topless. Have any of YOU tried this? should I?
Also, if I have this all around tan, will it be appropriate if I remove my bikini top while swimming. It's more comfortable, and I consider it freeing. Is this okay as long as I will be with only my close friends (boys and girls)???

Hi California Girl...
I'm 21, and started going to nude beaches when I was 17, so I absolutely love being naked around a pool or at a beach, etc. But at the risk of sounding like a parent (or at least an older sister) I would strongly recommend that you take some precautions if you're going to be topless around teenaged guys...close friends or not.
It's absolutely and perfectly appropriate for you to be topless or nude on your own property or around your pool (assuming that your parents are OK with it...it's their house and you are their daughter, after all.) Be careful if the neighbors can see, though...some people get uptight about bare skin and you don't want the cops showing up at you door.
Also, teenaged guys tend to get a little nuts and out-of-control around topless or naked girls. You don't want to give them the wrong impression or set up a situation that you won't be able to control.
I'd suggest that you tan topless (or nude) to get a great look (and to enjoy being topless or nude under a warm sun) and then limit your pool parties to girls only. You and your friends can get topless or nude if you want without worrying about the antics of the guys.
Since you're from CA, you've got to be close to one of the great nude beaches out there. (I'm from NY and go to Lighthouse Beach, an awesome nude beach here on Long Island). You can always go with your girl friends and the guys to a nude beach if you want to enjoy mixed company...there's less chance of the guys getting rowdy on a public beach.
Have fun, be safe, and enjoy the freedom that comes from being topless or naked in an appropriate place for an appropriate purpose.

This would be a good question to ask your parents, I think you know the answer. At 16, you should only sunbathe topless if the area you sun bathe in is totally private, I am sure your father does not want to see you topless. It is never appropriate to swim topless with boys around and you shouldn't with girls around unless you are sure they are all comfortable with it. If you are going to tan topless, be sure and use sunscreen or you will regret it.

I do it but I'm 35 and I have a private area in my yard. Be careful though be sure to put some sun screen on your nips...I didn't and paid the price...ouch. I don't know about topless in a pool with boys and girls there...that's asking for trouble and will certainly get some tongues wagging...............

Keep your top on in public. Even if it's with friends. Especially if there are guys there. As for tanning topless...sure if you are alone and sure no creeps are watching you!

tan naked in a tanning bed, will take maybe only three times... besides, who is going to be seeing your naked parts u want tanned anyways! u are only 16, no i would NOT swim naked around your friends... well, i gues if you want to always be known as the easy girl, then do it.

oh no hell no! respect yourself and go to a tanning salon or do it in private. the guys will think your a slut and the girls will end up haiting you. don't do it chica
