Good for you for taking the baby in a car-seat; unrestrained babies (lap babies) have pretty much no chance of surviving a crash and it's really dangerous to travel with them like that.

Some--- but not all--- airlines do offer discounted rates for children. Check directly with the airlines for these rates as many of the resellers like Expedia only book the full adult fare regardless of who is travelling. United and USAir definitely give discounts for kids but I am not sure just how big a discount you get.

Your 8 year old will require a seat and no matter what age he is, they still charge full price cose you are taking up a seat. Your baby might get to travel for free, depending on that airline, if he is sitted on your lap or in a bassinet. If you intend to put him in a car seat, you need a seat to place the car seat and that will most likely be chargeable but you can again check with your airline on the pricing as different airlines have different guidelines.

The 8-year-old will take a whole seat by himself - that's the same seat an adult could take if your child were not with you. So there will not be a reduction in price. They are selling seats regardless of how much of it the passenger takes up. The baby will travel on your lap. No car seats in a plane.

If the baby stays in the car seat, the airline will charge a child fare for the baby. As for our 8 year old, airlines will usually charge a fare since because of his age whether or not he/she takes up a seat. Of course, this varies from airline to airline so call them and ask first!

Depends on the airline. We travelled from Tokyo to L.A. with a six month old and were still charged 200 $ even without a seat or meal.

The good news, the baby gets a full baggage allowance and stroller allowance.

I fly with my 3 young infants on my own plenty and that i'm a former Flight Attendant. considering I have been given maximum of questions related to the priority, I wrote a piece of writing for a community e-newsletter some years lower back. Now i've got placed it on a weblog and pass it directly to help different mom and dad. that is completely non-commercial (in assessment to maximum different web pages on the cyber web). that is a few distance too long to repeat and paste yet you may skim although to the climate that are relevent to you. If he's those days potty-experienced, I hide that concern besides! For one baby and that long of a flight, i'd get a transportable DVD participant and a few new movies. once you're flying across the worldwide, do no longer purchase them at your trip spot simply by fact they wont be compatable. I communicate approximately what toys to deliver onboard. Have him carry his very own backpack with them. deliver your guy or woman sippy cup and have the F/A's fill that truly of an frequent cup that can spill. some acquaintances deliver those "take & toss" form truly. be valuable to deliver a transformation of clothing for the two one in each of you. No, it would not take in plenty room. some thing previous that rolls up small and placed rubber bands around it and placed it in a plastic bag. simply by fact the "baby's foodstuff" are frequently greasy, we order Kosher (considering we don't eat beef, we are coated). We additionally all have the comparable meal-a plus. Ask approximately different forms of foodstuff you may order onboard. regrettably, extremely some airways no longer hand out those "kiddie packs" simply by funds cuts. I nevertheless use a backpack for my 3 twelve months previous while flying. I opted for that over a stroller. examine up extra interior the article and settle on which will paintings for you. I had 2 different young infants and had a connection. refer to him previous to time and tell him that that is going to likely be long and that he would desire to get bored. tell him that there will be a 2nd while he has to make the attempt to sleep, despite if he's not that drained. in any different case, in a while after touchdown, he wont have the possibility and it would desire to be hard. make valuable he's lifelike related to the holiday. they're many times so excited and then after some hours, they prefer it to be over. stable success and have a stable holiday!

On all the airlines I have flown with, a child is either full price or (with air new zealand) discounted, and a baby under 2 is free, but they must be on your lap.

No, airlines charge for the seat, regardless of size or age. If you hold the baby, then that would be one less seat.
