Physically speaking, I suspect there is an infinite number of dimensions. And by dimension I do not mean paralell universe (which is an entirely different concept). I mean a dimension along which matter, energy, or whatever the universe is made up of can exist relative to something else.

It mathematics and database design, I've already use four dimenions.
In terms of the physical world, it's possible, not probable. Some consider time to be the fourth dimension, so we're already experiencing it.

Well, the question that always comes to my mind in this regard is "Is there a truly two-dimensional universe or plane (sorry for the inadvertant pun) of existence." It would be much easier for us to detect a downward dimensionaly universe than upward. If that makes sense.
