I'm 17 but I have lived a fairly sequestered life, I have only recently started going to a public school (college) so I have NOOO experience talking to girls. I guess I just want to know what regular guys talk to girls about. Maybe some topic suggestions, what tone of voice I should use, etc...
:) Re-reading this question, I realize how weird I must sound, but I really just want to be a normal guy, so why not trust the annonymity of the internet? :D

I had this same problem and some times still do. Albeit now I'm married. The best thing is to talk to anybody regardless of sex or belief or whatever the same way you would like for them to talk to you.
Girls are quirky animals sort of speaking of course. They don't like talking about certain subjects. So, avoid talking about fishing or nascar. Sometimes it helps if you talk about something the other person is interested in as opposed to what you are interested in. Again this works for all types of people. For example, Some girl is talking to you and she says something along the lines of "I can't beleive my best friend ended with that idiot!!!" to which you say "why?, whats wrong with the guy?" Then they will take it from there. You play the more passive role.
If all else fail then talk about food. Everybody likes food. Talk about your favorite recipe or that great stake you had the other day.

Basically anything bro Dude girls love 2 talk and when i say love i really mean it they love 2 talk so u can basically start up a conversation easy with a girl. U can be like hey do i know u? and shell be like i dont think so and u can be like what school did u go recently in your case high school see and just keep it flowin and if the conversation goes smoothly get her digits

Wow, college at 17, awesome. What you want to do is be yourself! Talk about things you like, in the process you will probably learn a little bit about what she likes. Talk about that! Current events; I would stay away from politics, money, or religion at this time though. Just chat with them girls and if you like one another then discuss the more important things at that time. I always wondered how I should talk to guys. It's no mystery, just talk to them like you would to a friend, a family member, the same stuff, nothing special, talk about anything. Just be yourself, don't try hard, relax. But be respectful.

When I'm with friends we usually talk about anything. Movies, music, travel, family, anything. When I'm with guys we talk about the same sort of stuff. If your looking to pick a girl up then just be yourself, talk to other guys and observe what they talk about.

I think they like it when your a friendly and ask them about themselves.
(dreams, hopes, ambitions) or just make an observation about class or the teacher.
The important thing is to practice like with anything. The first girl you talk to may think your weird, and maybe the second. But then you'll start to become friends with them.
At least that's how it happened with me.

exactly as you are doing right now, everybody has their insecurities but sometimes at your age you think no one is as shy as you think you are. Talk with them about just anything or everything, it doesn't matter, by the way girls at this age think shy boys are cute.
