I have a wonderful mate that would do anything for me for valentines day but I just think this holiday is pointless. I have the best man on the face of the earth everyday of the year why do I have to go out only once a year to say I love ya. I love to be romantic but I dont like society telling me what day of year I have to be that...or him either. I just feel like this holiday brings sorrow and unheart felt expression because we are told to do so. What do you think?

Well, it's not like I'm against Valentine's day, because it's a nice reminder for people to do something nice for a loved one. But shouldn't we be doing it EVERY day? Anyway, here goes:

1) All the good restaurants are booked way in advance
2) Card getting procrastinators are left with slim pickings at the Hallmark store - probably ending up giving their significant others a Valentine's card intended for a grandfather. Written in Spanish.
3) Yet another holiday to eat chocolate and get fat.
4) It's not like we get the day off or anything
5) In gradeschool you had to give Valentines to EVERYONE. Even the mean, smelly kids
6) There's always that girl in the office or at school who gets flowers from her boyfriend/husband, making the rest of the women envious
7) What is this holiday celebrating? Love? Shouldn't we celebrate love every day? Do people even know how this holiday started? Because I doubt many people know what kind of torture St. Valentine went through.
8) There's too much pressure to do something or buy something for this day.
9) It sucks when you're in a long distrance relationship and you can't see each other
10) It sucks even more if you're single.

I agree. As far as I'm concerned, it's just another Pagan activity designed to make ppl spend money on things they could get any day of the year. Limiting your affection for your significant other to just one day of the year is wrong because you're in effect saying that all the other days when you do show the same measure of love are less important. It's just one day and b4 u know it it'll be over and the money that could've been used doing something else like paying a bill etc. would've been wasted. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with spending money on your special someone but it's the time constriction that I have a problem with.

V Day is indeed overrated and overcommercialised. Those that benefit most are the retailers. It's sad that some relationships break down becoz of V Day. Yes, that's right. I've known of some broken-hearted girls who dumped their bf just becoz they were'nt treated like princesses on V Day. Funnee lot!
I think people should start do a research on what this day actually means. I've heard a few versions and they've got nothing to do with flowers and chocolates and stuff.

I hate it too, and i've had a girlfriend for 2 1/2 years. it's a holiday made popular by hallmark and companies like that, but it's a good chance for singles to try to show interest in someone. after a while in a serious relationship, it becomes more trouble than it's worse. what do i get the person? is it good enough? what if they get something bad for me? what do i do? where are we going? you get the point. don't worry about it, just talk to your man and tell him to get you some flowers and a card, and do something special on a tuesday in april that will suprise you and make you feel really special

Finally, another female that wouldn't say I'm wierd for not doing valentine's day. I have never understood the point. Its just like you've said, everyday with my hubby is bloody fabulous... so why should one single day be so special?

In fact both my husband and myself have had to be reminded (by sms from my mother-in-law) about our anniversary for the past 4 years. Neither of us have ever remembered our annirversary and neither of us care if the other one remembers. Because every single day feels like getting married all over again.

I completely agree with you...regardless of whether or not I've been in a relationship, I've just never thought valentine's day was important. To me, it's just another "holiday" that gives florists and candy stores a way to make more money. It's just another day of the year to me.

I don't know if it's stupid, but rather a day to honor love, just like Mother's Day is to take time to honor moms even if we do it everyday. I love my kids so I usually get them a little gift just to emphasize my feelings for them. But you're right, you can do it everyday and you should if you're in love!! So just do what you normally do, forget the chocolates and roses and have fun!!!

I totally agree with you. Everything is always more expensive on V-Day, and it is over-rated. I think your right when you said why do we need 1 day out a year to tell our partners we love them. You see girls walking around with their flowers and teddy bears in their arms look so pleased that their man rememberd to give them something (mainly to shut them up I think). I mean who cares. Any way I better stop talking.

I agree V day is a marketing ploy to sell flowers etc.
It can be important for shy people that normally would not approach someone and v day gives them the opportunity.

It's much nicer to receive flowers for no special reason at all.

Yeah it's just a Hallmark( insert fav. card company here) Holiday. Love is ideally expressed anytime not just on a specific date. It is rather depressing for those of us who are single.
