i want to know if you can have love and not just great sex. i love him but i just dont know if its the sex or not

First thing to get clear is that love and sex do not necessaily go together. Next point to deal with is to understand that love is not something to seek or to get; it is something to give. Finally, recognize that the idea that your love has to be focused on only one person is absurd and childish.
I think the problems arise because people such as songwriters confuse teenage infatuation with love, and promote the false idea that you can only love one person and that hooking up or marriage is a goal to be achieved, as if human relationships are a contest. A lot of television shows too deceive you with the silly notion that all human relationships are based on one-on-one love.
Hooking up or marriage should be the free choice of equals. And love should never be "fallen into". If you become a loving person and give your love freely to a lot of people, then everything will just naturally fall into place without striving for it.

Well, does he treat you with kindness, love and respect whether you two are having sex or not? If all acts of kindness just lead to sex, then perhaps it is only sex.
If sex does not dominate your realationship then maybe it is love.

Stop having sex 4 a while. to see if things change or how drasticlly they do change. if he starts actin all crazy (besides his natural sexuel frustration) it was the sex.

you'll know if its love if you can't even start a day without a thought of him.if you changed your ways not because its what he wants, its because you wanna be a better person for that guy or girl
if its just for sex... you only find him attractive in bed & naked.

You KNOW its love when you're constantly thinking about that person( and not only in sexual ways ) and you miss that person when they aren't around, and when you just can't see yourself without that other person
