Be around people who don't smoke so you're less tempted.... atleast to start off. Try cutting down gradually. Think about just smoking half a cigarette when you're really stressed or after you eat (whenever you think you need to the most). You will eventually realize that smoking is not good for you in any way or the people around you. It's too expensive, a waste of money, and you waste too much time going and getting them and finding excuses to slack off just to have one. After you quit you will realize what a nasty habit smoking really is. Your hair and clothes will smell good and not like smoke. Your teeth will look better and taste better. And after a little while, because you don't immediately start to feel better, you will feel better. You won't be coughing all the time (if you've smoked for a while), and hacking up all kinds of gross stuff.
Good Luck to quitting, you can do it if you set your mind to it.
And one more thing, once you quit DO NOT go back. Don't let anyone give you another cigarette again, because if you do then you're hooked!

I stopped smoking 4 years ago this month after smoking for 38 years. First you need to figure out whether cigarettes are a habit to you or are you additived. For years I denied that anyone could be additive to cigarettes, but I was wrong. Additition is when you have physical symptoms when you are denied the product ie; runny nose, unable to sleep, itch all over, very nervous, etc.
I was additided. I set a date in February back in November because I was having a surgery and knew I wasn't able to smoke in the hospital. I use to have dreams that were like panic attacks where for whatever reason (nucluler bomb, lost in the woods, illegal to smoke) I couldn't find a cigarettes. I did research and did it all except hypnosis. My surgeon wrote me a prescription for Wellbutrin which I began a couple weeks before my surgery. I bought the patches, I bought the nicotine gum, I love bubble gum so I bought a huge tub at Cosco, I like certain hard candy so I bought a bunch of that, but most of all I literally counted down everyday when I was going to quit and I told everyone about it. Some didn't believe me, others started pools when I would last and some friends were very supportive. I mentally prepared myself, just kept thinking that I could do it, how much money I'd save, how much more attractive I'd be, how I wouldn't have to have a cigarette all the time, wouldn't have to stand out in the cold with the other smokers, could accept invitations where I knew others wouldn't be smoking, could fly across the country without losing my mind, would smell better and most of I be more healthy! By the time February came around, I actually had a few dreams where I wasn't smoking and didn't crave a cigarette. I didn't cut down at all. I smoked my last cigarette before I went to bed the night before I had surgery and had to be at the hospital. I haven't had one since. Since I was on pain pills and I slept a lot for the first few days, I think it might have been easier because I had tried before and about went crazy. I did drink a lot of water and I still do. Honestly after 3 weeks it was ok, not great, but ok. I could still pick up a cigarette today and smoke it and I still love the smell of cigarette smoke, but I haven't had one since. Once years ago I managed to stop when I became pregnant for 4 months and I had a cigarette at a party and by the end of the week I was back to a pack a week. Good luck. For me, I didn't like the nicotine gum, never used it and I only used a few patches. The Wellbutrin really helped. I needed something in my mouth that I liked.

Hi,

thw best way is to never light another one up!

However that's not neccessarily the easiiest way/

What ever way you choose the most impertant thing is the WANT to stop. There are many commercial solutions...patches, gums. etc.

All of them require one thing...the real desire to stop. Many people find this a very hard thing to do, so whatever you start to do, WANT it!

Quite honestly whatever method youi choose it will be hard, bur quite definitely worth it.

If you want a quick. easy solution you won't get one, but if you want support you got it!

If I can help in any way then I will, I believe the easiest (and hardest) way is to stop, right now, throw your cigarettes away and never buy another. Never try to light another and good luck!

.Start with reasonable goals like going from 2 packs a day to 1 pack per day. Then for your next step go to 10 cigarettes per day and so on. Then at some time you are going to have to stop altogether.
Tell your friends that you are working on stopping to smoke.(that puts pressure on you to continue with your program)
You have got to substitute the smoking with some other activity but make it a smart choice-- not fatty foods.

The best way is to throw the cigarettes out and quit cold turkey. If you don't feel you can do this then ask your doctor for help.

See site below and click on MORE HEALTHY PRODUCTS in upper right hand corner. It tells about a handheld computer. At first you you do not try to stop. The computer learns your habit. Then it takes control of your habit without reducing how much you smoke. Then it reduces the amount you smoke so slowly that you do not notice you are smoking less and less.

Stop putting them in your mouth and lighting them....You have to want to quit to start with and then start looking at all the behaviors that tend to cue you to smoke. Just after eating...while drinking....chatting on the phone....driving....so on and so on....
Once you aware of when you're doing it then find a way to distract yourself when the urge to smoke hits. Most people find if they can make it through those first few days then they can stay off of it.

Cold Turkey !! All of the products on the market seem to just feed you nicotine and that's what you need to avoid. After about two weeks you will feel better. Eat something that doesn't make you gain weight , like celery , to avoid the urges :-)
