you could calculate your intake of each vitamin and try to bring it closer to 100% of your RDA. it's basically okay to go (way) over with the water soluble vitamins like the B's and C. take a break sometimes though. you should try to get your omega 6 and omega 3 intake to be roughly equal. this usually means supplementing with flax oil, as rich diets are usually too high in omega 6. every meal should contain adequate fiber. some vitamins work together, some work against each other. this is one of the pitfalls of supplementation.
i found this website that looks very well informed: http://www.acu-cell.com/ find the page with common ailments; it's interesting. i'm not sure how to proceed with this info, however. presumably you could find a doctor who would test your levels of all these micronutrients and then supplement accordingly.
we are all different and both surpluses and deficiencies can be quite bad.
as far as centrum goes, i think twinlabs make higher quality products.

ascorbic acid, vitamin c, or a multi-vitamin wherein the asc acid/vit c has the highest dosage. you need it so you can't get sick that easily/you have a defense against colds and other bacteria that are easily transferable.
also, drink lots of water.
those two are the best.

not many vitamins are that great, many dont dissolve in your body so you get no nutrition out of them. the best vitamins i have found are Usana...they were ranked number one out of five hundred different vitamins and they are also the only line found in the physician's desk reference.... if you are interested in something that works go here....
