Gosh, isn't that a bit extreme? I just took in a stray, and although it's never used anything but the outdoors, without any demonstration took to the litter box immediately and has used it ever since. All I had to do was when she went to the door and meowed to go out, I put her in the litter box...Voila! Trained. Just like that. I think you should go back to using the toilet and maybe make an appointment ASAP with a psychiatrist.

You using the litter box is only going to make your cat not want to use it. They will smell the unfamiliar sent and think this isn't where I'm supposed to go. However in doing volunteer work at an animal shelter I learned that it is a natural instinct for cats to go in soft sand. They don't really need training like a dog would. All you really need to do is set you cat inside the box so he/she knows where its located and let it do its thing.

Yes why don't you teach your cat how to eat cat food too. Put a bowl on the floor and eat off the bowl. For crying out loud this is an animal. Animals are trained not taught. Children are taught.

Bad idea. Your cat is going to get the idea that this is where the PEOPLE go the bathroom... Would you want to share a toilet with an animal of a different species?
Don't be surprised when the cat starts peeing in a corner of the living room...

LOL....do you clean the litter box???
Cats usually like to "bury" their waste. Most only need to be shown where it is.
