But are there any Christians or otherwise sensible thinkers out there who believe, like me, that you don't "choose" to be homosexual, it's not a "disease" or some mindless excuse like that. I've never been comfortable "judging" homosexuals for being who they are. I mean, murderers CHOOSE to kill (or they are insane, etc.). People who lie, usually can help it if they lie. People who cheat others, can CHOOSE not to cheat. But I don't see how people who are gay can/should/whatever "choose" to be sexually attracted to someone else. I mean, if I am attracted to the "wrong" guy, I can avoid him at all costs, but that doesn't change the fact that something about me is attracted to him, so how can people expect homosexuals to somehow be attracted to the opposite sex?? Also, the gay people that I've known, have known of their feelings from a young age. It's who they were. It's not some rebellion, or ?? What do you all think? I'd appreciate responsible answers, thanks!

It is a manifestation of our sinful nature.Humans are inclined to sin, which is why we are tempted to do the wrong thing.I believe it's the same thing with homosexual desires.

I do not think that homosexuality is God’s best for anyone. However, I am willing to admit that there are biological causes for homosexual feelings, and that the person is unable to choose their biology and thus, cannot choose their feelings. However, I do not believe that having feelings for a member of the same sex is an entitlement to act upon them in the same way that sexual feelings before marriage is not an entitlement to act upon them as well.
Christians have a hard time understanding the effects “Original Sin” has upon biology. When a child is born without legs we are willing to admit that is it probably not the child’s fault or their parents, but it is the effects of living in a fallen world. I think in a very similar fashion homosexuals biological disposition to develop an attraction for members of the same sex is a product of living in a fallen world. It's not their fault, but it is not they way God originally created humanity.

Homosexuals have hard lives. They are rejected by most members of society. I feel that the church should be a place where they can be comforted and loved regardless of the choices they make. I think if Jesus where here today he would eat with the Homosexuals in the same way that he ate with those tax collectors, because both groups are the marginalized of society by the “religious” people.

There is a passage of the new testament epistle of Romans that says that we are delivered from the law. This is literally the case
as there is no original copy of it any where, and paper doesn't
last 2000 years. Also, assuming that God is, he is not enforcing
the law against being gay.
Being gay cannot be a willful crime, because there's no malice and no intent to offend God. So no, it's not a true rebellion.
If the new testament is true, Jesus made atonement for the sins of the whole world.
Not even hetero men choose what woman they are attracted to,
or love.
It could happen in rare instances that a gay person could become attracted to one of the opposite, and that wouldn't be their choice either.
I do believe that straight or gay, that people should be allowed to own themselves.

Nothing can change a person except God, and so it's rather hypocritical of Christians to try to force homosexuals to change their orientation.

Also, I think there are certain circumstances that lead to this behavior, and it is a very insiduous decision that is sometimes made before a person understands it. It's just like someone who has grown up believing one thing for their whole lives. There are some old people who grew up believing that racism was right, and they still haven't been convinced otherwise in their old age. Now that it's not at all accepted socially, people usually keep quiet about it, but it still exists in the minds of a few. Does that make it right? No. Am I trying to say that gays are no better than racists? No, but the mental situation in both cases is very similar.

I think we can become addicted to ideas in much the same way that we become addicted to cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs. I think this is evidenced best in what they say in Brokeback Mountain, "I wish I could quit you." That, to me, sounds like an addict.

well yes most major religions condem homosexuality, but it is true i dont think they CHOOSE to be gay, they just are, you dont choose to be a blonde, brunette, or short or tall, you just are and u cant change it. besides if they did choose to be gay id think they would second guess that choice because of all the ignorance and violence against the gay community, nobody would want to put themselves in a place where they would be harassed all the time on purpose?!! i dont support homosexuality but i dont oppose it either, its there nature and i dont judge, i wont want anybody to judge my lifestyle or beliefs either. being gay does not make u a bad person, and all these people saying that being gay is a sin and they will go to hell should shut the hell up, because only god can judge them, and only god can see whats in there hearts. those people should look at themselves twice before talking.

I don't think the important question is 'why', it's 'when'. As in, when are homosexuals going to be treated by the government just as heterosexuals are? They cannot legally marry in most states, cannot adopt a child in even more states, and if a homosexual ran for a public office they would be pushed off the podium. We need to be more tolerant and show others that homosexuality is a normal, heathy way to be.

I agree. All of my gay friends said they were gay from birth. The second they could walk they'd kiss the same sex and so forth and made their barbies make out with the same sex and have always felt very strongly for the same sex. So, I agree. But I am also not a Christian...so you may not even care about my opinion. Either way...Blessed Be!

I don't like homosexuality any more than ignorant biblical references that make no sense either .Both are the same to me except the biblical authors were more ignorant and if they had the educational standards of today i would blame them for poor choices as well . just because a few homosexuals fit your narrow minded type cast is not to say they are all the same . when you finish researching your subject ask it again till then it too much like work to explain the facts of life to someone of your limited knowledge and opinion .

We are all born with the sin nature. All of us sin. Homosexuality is a sin. So I guess, in a round about way, they were born with this tendency. I guess its such a big deal with us Christians, because civilizations are destroyed by rampant homosexuality. God considers sexual sins, especially homosexuality, as abominations. You will notice in scripture, that of all sins, the sexual ones seemed to be the sins that are brought to our attention the most. Murder may top it as far as number of scriptures, but I am not 100% sure of that.

In many cases Homosexuality is a genetic disease but in many it is a clear choice. That is why you will find about 50% of prison inmates perform acts of homosexuality. A far greater percentage than the civilian population. Many civilian men who are socially unacceptable to women for various reasons also become homosexual by choice. Many women just like to experiment with homosexual acts by choice.
