Negative thoughts, like when someone makes you mad and you have images of harming them, or your just sitting around and you start to get negative, what do you do to ease those thoughts? What should someone do to channel that energy away?

Please do not assume mental illness is involved or something like that, because everyone has these thoughts.

I would appreciate serious answers.

You are correct, many people have what you call dark thoughts when they are angry or become obviously aware of emotionally stressful issues in their own lives or of the world in general. While it is not uncommon, it is the ability to use restraint and logical thinking that keeps you from doing something irrational. There are many methods of refocusing your energy on positive thought but each person has their own particular method. Excersize can give you a physical boost of mood enhancing hormones. Techniques like Yoga and Tai Chi help you to physically focus good energy and in the process they also help you to mentally refocus your energy as well. Big picture thinking can work as well. If you are bothered by a small problem, open your mind to a larger greater good in your life or in your observations of the world around you. If you are religious or follow a certian faith, returning your mindset to that faith may help as well. Practicing mental patterns of positive thought can also aid in steering you away from those negative thoughts in the first place. In general, remember that life is short and try to enjoy each moment as it passes. Good, Bad and everthing in between. Hopefully that didn't sound like preaching or a Hallmark card, just use what you can if you care to.

Go find a religion. Seriously.
Your problem is something all humans go through.
I feel that best answer for it is religion. I won't particularly recommend a religion although I'm a christian lol..

If you are not up to it, at least listen to those newage tapes...I highly recommend Wayne Dyer. Go type his name up @ amazon although buy.com seems to have lower prices and better service these days...

relax, read, work out, play a videogame, write or talk about it, and then focus your mind on something else. Try really hard to smile.

Meditation may help with that. It is really hard to stay positive in this world, I can understand that!
