How do I perform linear regression on Excel?

Put the data you want to do the regression on in one column. Make a XY scatterplot graph of the data. Once you have finished with your graph, right click on one of the data points. Hit "Add trend line," then select linear. You should also find a check box that asks if you want to display the equation on your graph. Make sure that box is checked. Hit ok. You should see your equation displayed somewhere on the graph.

There are two ways to do it: graphically and as a command.

Graphically you make a scatter-plot chart, left click on the data points and add trendline, select linear, show equation, and show residual.

As a command you would use the linest command. The excel formula button can give you tips on using it. The help documentation is not bad either.

You could do a brute-force function, but thats harder.

You could use array functions and the built in pseudo-matrix methods of excel, but its also harder to explain.

So theres at least 4 ways to do it, but the simplest is the graphical way.

If you construct a chart from your data (easist way to do this is select your data then select F11)one of the chart options is a trendline and one of the trendline options is linear.
This automatically uses linear regression on your data and you can even choose to show the equation on the chart.

I have no idea what you're talking about it might be stats; try going to "data analysis". If that is not there you have to go to "add ins"
