Racism does exist. I am a 24-year-old Puerto Rican and I have tried to land a job at restaurants in Florida as a waiter and/or host and have been turned down. They have all blacks and Hispanics in the back cooking and washing dishes and all whites in the front working with custmers.

Racism will always exist no matter how hard we try to stop it. I don't think that it is all white people though. I am sooo tired of hearing how black people where treated back when slavery was legal. I can not believe that people still have a chip on their shoulder about that. I am not saying that it wasn't wrong believe me, words cant describe how they were treated. I actually have read alot of the slave narratives witten in the Federal Writers Project so as long as those narratives are accurate then I have a pretty good idea what it was like. But sometimes I think that all races not just black people really act like there stereotypes like when you watch music videos on TV it is enstilled in children that, that is the way black people or any other race act. African Americans have so many opportunities to succeed in life, being able to get grants to go to college just because of the color of their skin is one example of many. Until we stop putting ourselves into those groups then how are we gonna be able to stop racism. Stop thinking about the past and worry about the present and make yourself the best person you can be. I think every race, religion, etc. is accountable for racism and it will probable never be able to be stopped. Think what your ancestors accomplished if they can make so much good happen then you can to don't worry about what other people think of you. You worry about you and your goals. I am very sorry if this offends anyone it is just my opinion and I have nothing against any race, but i do have a problem with people who don't try.

Racism will always exist and never go away no matter what. I'm Canadian and the other day at school this Indian women looked right at me and said "I hate Canadians and I hate this country." I felt like saying well, if you hate Canadians and Canada then go back to your own ******* country. I know that answer had nothing to do with your question but i'm just really pissed off so i had to add it. Racism is caused by immigrants and as long as we have them than there will always be racism.

high: My personal observation on racism is this. I find that there will always be a "pecking" order when people are together whether they be children of the same color or adults of the same color. Now; when you mix the races, the dominant race picks on the next race "in-line" etc. This is all attributed to human nature and will be in existence until Christ returns to the earth. If Mongolians ruled and the whites lived among them, they would be racist against the whites. The "pecking" order syndrome.

Racism still exists among all cultures. Sometimes it is because individuals are uneducated or are raised with racist beliefs, and sometimes it is an entire culture that influences its young people. In the end, it is whether or not children are exposed to different races and cultures and if they are properly educated in a non-racist society that determines if they are racist. I wish I could say that the day will come soon that everyone will love one another despite the color of their skin, but I don't see it happening. Ever.

We humans are not very good at learning from the past. that is why wars still exist too. And injustice. etc. etc.
EDIT:
I notice that ccguy feels that if there is racism against blacks, it is the fault of blacks. Interesting theory! And is pedophilia the fault of children? And rape the fault of women? And theft the fault of the victims too?

Racism is still alive and well because, to be honest, it is one of the most efficient ways to create, maintain and perpetuate power over others. After all, of one can marginalize an entire group of people based solely upon some genetic, cultural or religious prejudice...well, you do the math.

Racism will exist until everyone on Earth is one color. There will always be shallow people who are afraid of or don't trust someone of a different race. It's pitiful and ignorant.

I agree. People do not learn from the past. People do not naturally discriminate ( I know because my young children don't do it) It is something that is learned through society and other people. Some people have to feel superior so they discriminate, my opinion is that they are actually inferior in some way and that is why they have to do it...to make up for some inferiority they have or feel.

When blacks decide there is more to life than their skin color, then racism will go away. Its really up to blacks. An interesting fact is that blacks who migrate here from other countries have the same income levels as whites. I have also seen American blacks treat blacks from other countries baldy. So would that be considered racism? I noticed a big push lately for reparations and this also creates large crevasses between the races. Its interesting to note that blacks came here after many whites were already here. I know my ancestors were here before the black slaves were brought in. Since middle eastern slave traders rounded up the slaves and shipped them to America, should they be more accountable to pay reparations? Anyway, until blacks make their lives about something more than skin color and victim mentality, they will not be happy in society. Its really up to them.
