I think a light shade of pink would complement all your decor. Then add pictures with pink and beige colors.

I agree, lilac sounds good. But make sure it picks up the same tone as the purple carpet -- some purples are more red, some are more blue. If possible, bring a sample of the carpet to a home improvement store and have them help you find a complimentary shade.
While you're at the store, make sure to get all the right supplies for interior painting. Check out this list at the site below...

If you use any shade of purple, it would be a very soothing color pallette. Then, you could use other shades of purple, hints of green, and silver for accessories.
Also, a pastel shade of yellow would look nice. I would recommend lavendar or purple printed curtains if you go for a bland color on the wall though.
Stay away from any shade of orange or blue. It would be a very strong contrast too difficult for the eyes.
I recommend finding the color purple in your rug inside a crayola box and then drawing different colors next to it and see which one calls out to your eye.
If your rug is very deep, you would be best off sticking with a pastel or muted color as you don't want to saturate the room with color and take away from your beautiful drapes and fabric.
Good luck.

Complemtairy colors are the most contrasting colors in the paint color spectrum, and are used for dramatic effects. If purple is your primary color, than your complemtairy colors would be,Yellows,Gold tones(like a harvest gold),and Greens. I would paint the ceiling,a very very pale sky blue,(which would be a tertiary color to purple)than using a off-off white, bone or antique, paint some fluffy clouds on it. You can also paint it a medium gray, and put white stars on it instead of the clouds. Than I would paint one wall a different shade of purple,a little bit lighter than the carpet, the other walls a Navajo white(has a yellowish tint) and than trim all of the room in a bright, brighter, and the brightest gloss yellow you can find. When your done, let me know,I'd love to find out what colors you chose.

An option other than using colors next to purple on the color wheel (blue or pink) is to go across the wheel to orange. If your bedding is deep purple, a pale apricot or peach would look really nice, and more sophisticated on the walls, especially with ivory woodwork/trim. Go to the paint store and pick out color samples to bring home and lay out on the bedding, and buy what you like the looks of the best.

Each one of my rooms has a different color carpet. I used paint chips like you get in the store to find the color of the carpet, then painted the walls a lighter shade of the same color. I used a dark version of the carpet color for the baseboards and door casings. We think it turned out very nice.

I'm thinking lilac, it adds color to the walls, compliments the carpet and compliments your beige drapes and oak furniture

I think a pretty golden color, like a yellow ochre. You could also go with a beige slightly darker or slightly lighter than your drapes.

Grey would be pretty but for some real punch I would go for a medium, soft green.
