The power comes from the entire body. Mainly the hips and the rotating of the pivot leg.

The power from any punch or kick comes from technique. You could have legs that crush wall nuts and still not kick a booger off the car seat. Power comes from your hips. And that power comes from your feet that are on the ground. Foot work, correct body movement and momentum make a powerful punch and kick. In learning how to kick right you build the mucles in your leg which ultimatly give you more strength and will lead to a more powerful kick. But in a nut shell its all technique.

No, it comes fro the technique, the twist in you foot to your hip, the hip to your shoulders and so on through your punch or kick.
this is true for ALL Martial Arts.
it's' ALL about the pivoting and twisting of your body that adds to the power in a punch or kick, physical strength has really very little to do with it.

not strength, but technique. power develops through body mechanics. like a stick vs nunchucku. the speed at the end of the nunchuku is way more than the end of the stick, even though they may be the same length. now see the leg, it is not straight like a stick, but has the same principals as the nunchukus in swing.
nunchuku suck, but you get the picture of the concept. also, hitting the leg can produce some crippling pain.
its all about your body, the complete package. it all has to move towards the goal of destruction. its not point scoring, it attempts to break your bones.

speed - timing - power/weight - technique. Plus strength! If two people of equivalent speed, timing ability and technique deliver the same strike but one is twice as strong, You tell me which will hurt the most!! Most important thing that most people fail to recognise with Thai Boxers.... Practise and training!!

Power comes from the core muscles and the ground. You 'll get a good idea when you watch the show Fists of Fury on NatGeo. They clearly explain martial arts with physics and modern technology. They show how techniques work with vivid details.

If you mean single group of muscles that make kicking/punching happen that are most important, it's definitely abs.
However keep in mind strong abs doesn't mean you can punch/ kick right. It's mainly the way you throw techniques that make it powerful.

Speed.
If you can get a mass (your leg) going faster, the impact is greatly increased.
So it's definitely muscle, but also technique like how to use your hip properly and upper body for counter-balance.
