You housebreak a dog just like you housebreak a child. Take them potty after they eat, sleep, drink, play. Don't wait for them to tell you they need to go, just take them anyway.
Kennel the dog when he's not under your direct supervision. They don't like to "go" where they sleep.

Exercise stimulates the bowel. Take him for a walk right after eating and he will go for sure. If it is too cold, play ball inside and get him moving. Sometimes our yorkie doesn't poo after his morning meal but he is old enough to hold it until he is out of his crate after work. Exercise really, really helps. Also we tend to let him out for pee or poo a few times in the morning within a short period of time. He rarely will poo or pee in one trip. It just takes a couple of extra minutes but works great. Make sure to reward him asap after he goes when you want him to. Hang in there...the more consistent you are with meal times, exercise and praise, the better it will get.
