how old should my american pitbull puppy be to go get her ears clipped at the vets?

Most vets like to do it pretty young, like 3 months maybe. I have had a Boxer and an Pitbull to get their ears clipped, and I want to warn you, it is a HASSLE. Yes, it usually looks good in the end, but it is hell to keep those ears always wrapped tight, clean them, make sure they stand, etc. Be prepared! make sure you get a good vet to do it.

Most vets do it younger to ensure that it is less painfull to the pup. Ask your vet over the phone their idea of how old and work with that. My sister in laws dog was under 6 weeks when her ears where clipped at a petstore. A little cruel it seemed but It healed fast and all went well.

The vet recommends as soon as the dog is healthy enough. Usually 4-6 weeks. She will have to wear a head gear to prevent her from scratching the ears otherwise they will flop forward or to the side. Your vet knows so much more than I do.....I only worked at a vet for a few years. Good luck with the pit....Sharon Farris-Thornton

To dock or crop a dogs ears i think the puppy should be at last fivemonths old ,once this proceedure is done you hould avoid touching theuppys ears becausethey wont gro the right way. Jan

Dogs should have this done at a very young age - at seven or eight weeks of age. It should never be done past ten weeks of age, as it becomes painful and more dangerous for the dog and is more likely to fail.

I own 4 pits and I would say don't crop her ears. Just my opinion, they kind of like their ears.

Really the younger the better and its also cheaper.
