Intercessing is not to change Gods mind, but to comfort those who are suffering thru constant prayer. You can actually feel alittle of what the person is suffering, thats why its called intercessing.

I can't speak for the whole christian community, but I pray for people that God puts on my heart. let me explain. suddenly you have someone on your mind that you have not spoke to or even thought of for some time. Prayer is a powerful thing. If you do not feel the need to pray and spend time with God that is quite all right. That is why we all have a God given choice. I hope this helped you out. In the present time I will pray for you that God shows you the answer to your very own questions. God Bless!!

God will change his mind sometimes but only when someone asks him to. He was going to kill this king in the old testament but a prophet prayed for him and God gave the king another 15 years to live. Prayers do work for other people or other things.

The Bible tells us that when Jesus died on the cross for our sins, He bridged the gap between us and God and He is in heaven now sitting at the right hand of the Father. When we pray, He hears and intercedes on our behalf as a child of God because now He can say..."See that one down there Father? I shed my blood for her sins and she came to know you. She is your child and she needs your help." God does change His mind for Jesus. Also, if you will read the story of Lot and his family, where God sent angels to tell him for he and his family to get out of Sodom and Gomorrah because it was so sin-ridden He was going to destroy it. Lot asked the angels to ask God if He would spare it if he could find 50 good men...40...30...20...10...5...(quoted from my memory) and there were not enough...but each time he asked, God said He would spare the city if Lot could find that many. So, intercessory prayer is important.

There are plenty of stories where God changed his mind because a person convinced him to. Its not that God didnt make the right choice in the begining, but that he was willing to hear their arguments and his love for mankind caused the change. I would hate to live in a world where one could not petition God. We dont always like the answer because sometimes no means no but I dont believe millions of people could continue to serve a God that had everything written in permanent ink so to speak.

I can not speak for others, but when I pray for someone else I am open the channel of power for God to use to have an impact on the material world. It has nothing to do with changing God's mind. God's will is only good. We need to plug into it and into His power and we are the receiver like a radio that transmits his healing power to others. It is not my power but His, I am only the instrument of His Love.

We do it to show that we are in agreement. Not change his mind he is not the one that does the afflicting, more to gain his aid in the forgiveness of sin. And yes all the ails we suffer are the result of sin. Sin-anything that we put before God, that pretty much covers everything here from time to time.

Christians believe that they can appeal to God and get him to "change his mind".........only they like to call it, "showing mercy".
There's a biblical story about this, I don't remember where but it's about God decided to destroy a city or something and a man prays over and over and talks to god and intercedes for the city and eventually god backs off.
Unfortunately, god doesn't seem to be listening to people anymore because i know of some Christians who pray all the time for god's mercy to be poured out on our government and we still have Bush/Cheney in office.
Go figure.......

Im with you man....why pray for all 80+ years you happen to be living on this planet...
Wait until the last breath of your life and then utter the words "I (state your name) do hereby take Jesus into thy heart"
Then POOF! 80 years of sin are washed away and you get right in....
It's very similar to the U.S. Presidency campaign....
right?
