I've read some nice reviews of MDF wood and I'm wondering where I can purchase it. What price range do 4' x 8' sheets come in? I checked the lowe's website but I couldn't find this product. Thank you.

MDF, I think it stands for Medium Density Fiber, anyway it's a wood composit made from waste materials, and used in many applicactions, that's why your search will not bring it up.

Paneling, moulding, doors, etc.

Yes it's cheap but it has it's draw backs

MDF really blows, it is cheap for a reason. I personally use 1/2 inch and 3/4 plywood. Funny as it sounds not the furniture grade stuff, but the sub floor material that sells for $25 a sheet. I like this because it stains well and is MUCH stronger than MDF. It does require more prep work but well worth it. Good Luck

MDF is manufactured in 49" x 97" sheets because edge damage in shipping and storage is common.

Current price in Texas ranges from 15.00 for 1/2 inch to 20.00 for 3/4 inch.

Its generally dust so must wear a mask (RPE) and goggles. These days machining MDF is quite safe as long as dust protection is in place because formaldehyde limits are insignificant in those products approved for use within the EU. The limits are: Formaldehyde - 2.5 mg/m3 or 2 ppm for both the long-term exposure limit and the short-term exposure limit Hardwood and softwood dust - 5 mg/m3 for the long-term exposure limit. There is no short-term WEL However, all machining requires eye protection too so its goggles and dust mask required. Personally I just use a vacuum cleaner attached to my bench saw.

make sure you wear a mask when cutting MDF and be aware that some MDF has a waxy finish to it and some paint will not stick to it. You may need to seal it with special paint or make sure your undercoat will adhere to MDF.
