I believe the book or article you read is out dated. Years ago french fries were cooked in lard or animal fat as were many other fried items. At the time animal fat was efficient, cheap and readily available, but with progress deep fryer oils have developed and many no longer contain transfat. The most common oil used in deep fryers is soy bean oil, cannola, or peanut oil but animal fat is no longer used

I believe that in America and other countries, they use oil made from the fat of Meat etc. to deep-fry them
But, to date, I have never ever noticed Meat in French Fries, it's always cooked in potatoes....

No, it is not true. And most fast food places switched over to using vegetable oil over 20 years ago.

Most big fast food chains use the fry grease only for fries/onion rings/ fried veggies.

. But I know smaller owned *greasy spoons* that fry everything together.

So you might want to ask the particular place you are thinking from eating at....

I think that was part of the issue with the trans fat. I believe now they are using more of a vegetable based oil rather than animal lard.

McD's used to fry their fries in beef fat... then the health police publicly condemned them for this practice, and they started using vegetable oil. And now McD's fries are bland and tasteless like everyone else's.
