if someone kills someone they get life in prison when some one attempts to kill some one but they dont succeed they get rewarded for not succeeding by getting a light sentence? in my oppinion a person who attempts murders and fails is just as dangerous as someone who attempts a murdur and succeeds?i want to remind people our prisons were not built to punish people but to keep the public safe and since people who attempt murder are just as dangerous as murderers why not treat them equally?

I totally agree with what your are saying. The problems is the way our laws are written, they need to be changed. Some times it just takes one person to get angry enough to to go out and help change the laws. Like when you see laws such as Megan's law etc.... and any other law that was changed because of a hand full of people getting angry enough to make it happen.
Yes, prisons are built to keep the public safe from violent offenders. However prisons are not built to cause punishment (beatings/physical harm)but they are a form of punishment none the less. Let's be real it isn't Disney land. It's every day living in a extremely controlled environment, where every move you make is under scrutiny. Your told the following.
When to get up.
How to make your bed,
What times to eat
What you get to eat
What you get to wear
When you get to watch tv/if you get to watch tv.
when you can take a shower
How much you can have in your cell, commissary items
the list goes on an on.
You do not get to choose who you will be housed with or what cell you get to live in. The noise is often unbearable, a couple hundred voices at a time talking, gates and door slamming shut and being opened throught out the shift. Some times the units are extreemly hot due to no aircondictioning and over crowding, it will just about cause a riot. Tempers flare in a heart beat, not a pretty picture.
If inmates can not get along in general population meaning they cause fights, or they commit crimes while being locked up then the go to what is refered to as the special housing unit. Or what we refered to as the hole.
Inmates are locked down all day, except one hour a day to have recreation and that is in a caged in area. Recreation is 1 hour a day 5 days a week. They get three 15 minute showers a week. Phone calls are limited. Yes, there is punishment of sorts.
It's not as I said Disney land! But if people can not get along in society that is where they go.

Get a life.
Nobody is 'rewarded' for murder OR attempted murder. Clearly, you have never been in a situation where you are the victim of either nor have you been the perpetrator or either.
"Dangerous" is not a legal crime. Your CAR is dangerous. You have the potential of killing someone with your car, even in a moment of inattention that precedes an accident.
How would like to be imprisoned for being the operator of a dangerous vehicle?
Keep the 'public' safe? How safe would you feel if someone were to arrest you and put you in prison for life because you've run a red light? Hey, you 'endangered the public' by doing so!

exactly like the previous person said, imagine this scenario, your driving down the street to work, some moron on the other side of the street is jay walking, while you in your car accidentally spill your coffe so for 1 second your eyes are off the road, you hit the moron thats jay walking and bam your put in prison for the rest of your life for attempted vehicular homocide, how would you like that, would you consider your self a "danger" to society or a "criminal"?? some cases you just cant label people criminals, other cases where maybe you pulled out a gun and aimed at the person, now thats a whole other case.

I agree with you 150% !
I have always wondered why we reward a murderer with a light sentence if he fails.
I can't think of any other situation in which a person gets rewarded for failing.

I agree for the most part. But then again, I don't know many people who got a "light sentence". I know they were definitely put in jail but not as long as those who actually did succeed.
