Why wouldn't we understand the Old Testament?
Americans are not always glued to the TV and we have learned about the New Testament from our Churches as well as from our bibles.
Americans are not heathens like some countries portray us to be either but church going good people.
Why do so many people from other countries think so little of Americans anyway?
I for one have never watched any Christian channel on TV and I don't plan to either because I would rather read from my Good Book then to watch TV as I learn far more from reading then watching and listening to someone who I don't know.
I hope I don't get blasted for my answer but you asked the question and this is my answer to it.

If one should place the Analects and the Torah before them and begin to read, understanding of many important things shall be learned from the Analects that will be complete and understood within the week. At the same time one would find themselves bogged down in history and fable with no current meaning in the present when trying to glean the needed and the factual from old and new testament through the year of the Pig and well past the next Spring festival.

There are plenty of good study Bibles which give thorough explanations of the Old Testament history, culture, and religious philosophies. You don't need TV or churches in order to study the OT and understand it.
Although I don't always agree with some of his conclusions, I will say that the Dakes Reference Bible is like an entire college OT curriculum. The NIV Study Bible is also an excellent source of reference materials.

Yes !!! God's Holy spirit will help any Christian understand it and see it complements the New Testament. How can one understand the New Testament thoroughly without the Old Testament ?

Who knows the 'New' testomony more desirable sensible: Christians or Jews? Now see how absurd your question easily is? You do recognize that the 'OT' isn't the Jewish bible, top? The OT is a translation of a translation. it really is often no longer something more desirable than a MIStranslation of the particularly Jewish bible: the Tanakh. because Jews are those who study and learn an precise translation, and because the Tanakh is the JEWISH bible, then for sure that's Jews who recognize it. It replaced into written by technique of Jews, FOR Jews. 'HAYIM TOV Y'ALL' - what a load of utter garbage. shame on you. TO THE ASKER again, i visit anticipate you're attentive to lots of the more desirable notorious MIStranslations of the Jewish Tanakh? Christians attempt desperately to 'decrease back engineer' Jesus into it although the actual reality continues to be that all and sundry with an precise translation of the unique Hebrew is often used with and may want to study that Jesus is nowhere to be modern in it! The Tanakh stands on my own. It is smart, on my own. it really is studied and skim and loved, on its' personal. It does no longer require the NT nor something from the NT to make stronger it. Can Christians declare an identical for his or her bible? if so, why do they even opt to harass with the 'OT'? after all, they reject the very essence of it.

To a certain extent, yes. There will still be many parts that need the explaination because they won't make sense at face value. And without guided instruction, you might miss some of the bigger ideas typing certain parts of the Old Testament together. It can be done, but you would do better to learn from someone who has studied it in-depth before.

To be properly brain washed by the bible you need to be trained in denial of the obvious and learn the 'work around' concepts the church make up to justify the violence, rape and murder in the old testiment.
I have never been to any church and have read the bible and are shocked that anyone cannot see it for what it is.

When a man strikes his male or female slave with a rod so hard that the slave dies under his hand, he shall be punished. If, however, the slave survives for a day or two, he is not to be punished, since the slave is his own property. (Exodus 21:20-21 NAB)

Well, I don't think you have to be in a church building or listen to a TV preacher (real or fraud) to understand the Bible.
What you do need to understand the Bible is the Holy Spirit. If you have the Holy Spirit, He is apt to teach you exactly what you need to know.

Yes.....my tip is read. Get several different version of the text if you like. See what you get out of it. Also study the history of the period that these text are written in. Get into theology, and get your feet wet. Instead of believing everything you are hearing, read and develop your own opinion.
