I rode on a couple of dry trails and the bike is reasonably clean, however at closer inspection I see a few specks of sand in a few chain links and on the cassete... This at first glance doesn't seem to warrant a complete chain removal and full degrease routine, then again I'm not sure. If you see a few sand particles here and there, what would you do?

For the most part, I agree with Aaron A and Dan.

The thing about bikes, especially when you've made a significant financial investment is that the little things can build up and become real problems. Likely, with only a couple rides, you don't need to remove the chain unless you were riding in serious mud and dirt and did no cleaning between rides.

As others have said, you should clean your mountain bike after EVERY ride. The least you should do is a visual inspection, and a light washing of the entire frame, being careful not to get water into your tubes. Also, DO NOT do what that one person said and wash your bike at the car wash. The high pressure of a car wash system could force water into parts of your bottom bracket that shouldn't be getting abused and cause problems. A light washing with a hose, and a mild amount of soap should be all you need. If you keep the drivetrain clear of debris after each ride, you should be fine. Anytime you do wash your bike, especially your chain, you should dry the bike and lube the chain.

As long as the dirt build up on the chain isnt to bad ull be fine. But if you want to keep the chain nice, go to a Motorcycle shop and buy chain lube, that stuff will stick to the chain and keep it lubricated + clean. I use it on my motorcycle and it keeps the dirt off of the chain.

If you want to take really good care of your bike you should clean it after everytime you ride it. To what extent you clean it is up to you, I would say for a few sand granules just blow them of with an air-compressor or brush them of with a brush.

It seems as though its fine... for now. You may want to clean it pretty soon because the dirt and sand will add up.
