For vacation time--all you will need for a cat is a clean litter box to start with, lots of dry food in a feeder, water faucet set on trickle to give it fresh water every day. And, if possible, a friend who can come in to your home and check on the cat. Keep the litter box clean, etc. Or, come in daily to feed and definitely water fresh for the cat. Please, keep this in mind as you approach your beloved with this topic. A cat for a pet for your children is very good-you teach them about respecting all life, especially your cats. They will enjoy having a cat to play with as they grow up. Also, for you, yes, a cat is peaceful, and mellow, and comforting. It's medically found that petting of an animal (pet), helps to lower one's blood pressure. It definitely helps one to de-stress. It's also nice when home alone-to have a cat there to keep you company, and when you have been away for a couple of hours or so, it sure is nice to walk into your home, knowing that the precious cat is waiting for you to greet you, help make you feel at home-in an extra special way for the evening. I wish you the best. Take care.

I think that would be a great idea for you to get another cat. It is wonderful that your little girl was so gentle with your elderly kitty. Cats are the most independent creatures around. Given enough food and water and a clean litter box. It would be fine to go away on a vacation and leave the cat at home. You wouldn't need some one there at your house 24/7. I would just have some one go in every few days to replenish the food and water and take care of the litter box. I really hope this helps and I admire you for wanting to get another cat. How you taught your little girl to be gentle with animals is really great. Good luck!

You are in a sticky situation. Both of you are correct though. Your husband is probably very sad that the older one is gone and therefore doesnt want to go through that again. He also could be concerned about the baby. You, on the other hand, love the companionship and comfort of an animal. The best thing to do would be wait until the baby is about a year or so old. Then have your husband go "out" with you and you just "happen" to go into a pet store. See how your husband reacts there. Tell him that you "just want to look". If he shows hostility then Im sorry but thats a loosing battle. If he shows even a little interest, then you might win at that point. But I wouldnt recommend doing this again, till your son is at least a year old.

Your not wrong to feel this way.. but He is probably upset inside and trying not try have a breakdown while at a work function and hearing you crying will only cause him to cry.. i think it would be a good idea for you to get yourself out of the house and find something to occupy your mind. when your husband gets home you can be sad about your cat together. sorry for your loss.

My 19 year old cat passed away last May and in December I got 2 kittens. I am so glad I did. It has been wonderful. I think if your husband knows how happy it would make you, he might change his mind. I hope you get one. Good luck.

I really think you should tell him right out. You "need" a cat because it gives you Peace. Sounds like you have your hands full. It is really selfish of him to deny you this. With everything on your plate. I would be nutty with out my cats.

Bring one home and tell your hubby you are cat-sitting, then don't ever take it back....by the time he figures it out he will already be attached and so will the kids.
