Hey, i was wondering if a flat battery (the types which are used in remote controls etc) would charge if left in sunlight. Also, what does 'trickle charge' mean, i've seen it written on my battery charger, but i don't know what it means. Thanks in advance!

Why would a battery charge in sunlight? Hey, don't get me wrong, I like photons as much as the next guy, but they won't add electrons to a battery. Hook it up to a solar panel and you're in business.

Small solar panels which plug into your cigarette lighter in your car will add a little bit of charge to your battery (if left in sunlight); trickle charge.

No it wont charge. You will need a complete circuit and a current to force the electrons back from the +ve plate back to the -ve plate. Trickle charging, also called float charging, means charging a battery at the same rate as it is self-discharging, thus maintaining a full capacity battery.

No, there's nothing in a battery that can convert sunlight into electricity.

Rechargeable batteries all have self-discharge mechanisms, that cause fully charger batteries to slowly lose their charge. Alkalines do also, but their self-discharge rates are orders of magniture smaller

Trickle charge is a charging mode that is supposed to cancel out the self-discharge of the battery.

no, batteries need electrical currents to charge, not heat or light. trickle charge is when the charger will apply a small current to a fully charged battery to offset the effects of self-discharge.

The battery will not charge per se, but the time in the sun will give time to rest if it's not fully drained. Actually, if it's not completely empty, just resting it will allow some charge to come back.

i think it can actually blow up in the sun. but, u can put it in the freezer and it will charge a little. however, don't leave it in there for more than 5 or 6 hours.
