If the dog was in a cage that long- yes, you did the right thing.
However, your Dad can't only be off work 1-2 hours a day. My question is- why did he get a dog to begin with?

Well of course you did the right thing! I'm not putting your dad down or anything but that was wrong to have a dog in a cage that long! Poor doggie. It's a wonder the dog is even in his right mind. But yes you did the right thing. I am sure he is a whole lot happier to be out of that damn cage.

Let me inform you of something. Although you may have helped a single dog in a cage, in China there are dogs that stay in cages 24 hours a day, and at the end of their life are skinned alive for their fur.
If you want to stop animal suffering then the thing to do is become vegetarian. The animals you eat go through many times more suffering than that single dog. Caring about only a dog is very hypocritical because there are animals that have to suffer for feeding your dog.
Yeah, you did the right thing to a certain extent, but you have to look at the bigger picture.

yes you most definatly did the right thing. a dog should not be locked up in a cage for that long. unless the cage was rather large, and gave the dog enough room to run around. but yes you def. did the right thing by adopting that dog.

Of course you did! You know that it would be a pain in the **** if you were couped up for that long. Your Dad should have let you do this a while back when he realized he did not have the time to devote to the dog, So yes you deserve the praise and admiration and your pop deserves to be punished by what means YOU DECIDE

YES, you did the right think. Thank God there are people like you out there. Was this dog using the bathroom in his cage too? Was it a crate? Dogs need to be out more than once a day. I think it's wonderful that you did this.

Yes, That is to long for a dog to be in a cage and alone. I don't understand though, why, you mentioned that you don't eat meat.

Of course you did the right thing. That is terrible for a dog to be kenneled around the clock. Glad you could take the dog. Yeah, it makes me sad to think about it but I am glad your dad let you take the dog. He probably intended to have more time for the dog and is relieved that you have taken it.

sounds to me like you did exactly the right thing. well done.
p.s. why tell us about your not eating meat? remember!!! a dog is acarnivore. it must!!! have meat or you'll starve it to death. (apologies if i'm preaching to the converted, but i've actually heard of some vegetarians & vegans who try to force a veg diet on their cats/dogs. these poor abused animals will starve to death on a full stomach. they cannot survive without meat.)
all the best.
