I asked this reallllly late last night, and the answers I got, they didnt seem to get it, so lets try again

So I was told by a friend, that not only does Vista stop you from using an illegal version of vista, but it also has options in place to stop you from using pirated software. Like if you download a cracked version of photoshop etc...

He stated his source as the hackers digest but I couldnt find the article. Anyone know of this or have more info?

JUST TO CLARIFY

I am aware that vista disables itself if IT is pirated.

Im asking if Vista shuts down OTHER programs if it detects that THEY are pirated.

Part of the ELUA (End User License Agreement) says that various software that comes with Vista and is enabled by default is allowed to delete programs that it considers is harmful. So if Microsoft came up with a way to detect pirated/ illegal files/ programs and decided that they were harmful it could simply delete them. There are other various features of VISTA that could prevent the use of programs Microsoft might consider harmful such as virtual sound cards (which can be used to record DRM content) according to the electronic frontier foundation.

VISTA also has some fun "features" that can be over protective and prevent fair use of legal material. Many people with VISTA have difficulty playing DVDs or CDs they own on their computer even though such things worked fine in XP.

NO. There were a lot of wild "sky is falling" predictions about Vista and its "overwhelming" anti-piracy features, but they are almost all untrue. There are plenty of people out there who are using pirated software on Vista. To be honest, Microsoft could care less if you pirate other companies software, and they definately don't want to lose a lot of money buy not having software pirates buy Vista because of overbearing anti-piracy features. As for the thing about media, I have a bunch of mp3s on my computer that I ripped from CDs so they don't have any licenses with them, and they all play just fine. The only real restriction they have is on HD content, and that won't even actually be used for a few years.

Don't be a pirates if you feel that way.

Secondly, Windows Vista is a junk and got friend with real computer technician skill that can back me up NOT the Geek Squad. Geek Squad are cronnies and they have to make Best Buy make a big buck about it.
