One more cat doesn't make all that much difference financially as I found out... except maybe when BOTH get sick together *never happened to my cats thank God). But before you bring the new one inside your apartment, get the vet to check her/him out and given necessary shots. When you bring the new kitty hime, keep the two cats separated for at least a week - do not let them meet nose to nose so to speak. Keep new cat confined in one room. This is to ensure that the new cat will not be bringing in some bug to infect your old cat. Give them separate bowls for food water and separate litter boxes.
Thanks for thinking about adopting... you are a good soul :)

Hmmmm... Your kitty may enjoy having another kitty around! Since the cats really need homes (so they don't have to go to the shelter) then I would say yes. You could always take a couple, get them vet checked and find them homes. People may be more apt to adopt if they are current on shots and you could ask a small adoption fee to cover some of the costs along the way while doing something good for them. Do you have family that could watch your cat (s) while you are gone? It would be a shame to have to give them up.

I applaud you for wanting to take in another cat. But the fact that you will already have to find boarding for one cat (and I hope not in a public kennel but w/ a trusted friend or family instead), you are going to have to put up TWICE the amount of money for another cat. My advice would be, find a great place for your present kitty. Then when you get home from abroad, if you have the financial means then yes, get another kitty but not until then. You wont have time to bond w/ a second one before you leave and your time away will be hard enough for the one you have as it is.

Yes, I really think you should adopt one. You would be giving it a very loving home, because you seem like a nice person even thinking of it. As for boarding, since youre leaving in the fall, you will have plenty of time to bond with your new cat, and since your other one is going, might as well just bring the other one along.

How well socialized are the woman's cats? If she was unable to give so many animals enough individual attention, even if they lived indoors, they may almost act wild. If so, you may have a difficult time making a good pet out of it.

I tried adopting a cat that was left over from a batch of kittens in my landlord's garage.
My original cat would not get off the stove until I adopted it out.

Well, I think after you finish studying then you should get a cat, so you may spend time with her.... If you dont spend enough time with your cat they might get mad and not want to be around you so you don't want that....
I suggest after your studies...
GOOD LUCK!!!!!
