I converted to Apostolic Pentecost just a couple of years ago. I had heard all kinds of bad things about the Pentecostals. But I found out that what I heard was from people that really had no idea what they were talking about

I love Apostolic. I would not change now for anything. I love the Spirit of God that I feel in this church.

Be sure that any church you attend preaches scripture, and only from scripture. My pastor tells us not to take his word for it that we are to read and study the scriptures for ourselves.

Good luck. Don't let people persuade you from what you feel. Pray and God will lead you in the right direction.

Oneness Pentecostal people are many and varied. The two main groups that hold to Oneness theology are the United Pentecostal Church International (the largest) and the United Apostolic church. There are others like the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ and the Bible Way Churches of Our Lord Jesus Christ as well as a host of independent Oneness churches scattered throughout the United States.

The following points of doctrine are generally held to by the Oneness Pentecostal groups.

Within Orthodoxy

There is only one God in all existence
The Bible is God's inerrant word
Jesus was born of a virgin
Jesus had two natures.
Justification by faith
Baptism must be by immersion.
The elements of communion are bread and wine and are only for believers.
Foot-washing (John 13:4-5), is a divine institution to be practiced by church members.
Abstain from joining secret societies (James 5:12; 2 Cor. 6:14-18).
There will be a future rapture of the Church where the Christians will be transformed (1 Thess. 4:13-17; 1 Cor. 15:51-54; Phil. 3:20-21).

Outside of Orthodoxy

Denies the doctrine of the Trinity.
Denies justification by faith alone by stating that baptism is also required for salvation.
Jesus is God the Father.
Jesus is the Holy Spirit.
The name of God is "Jesus."
Baptism is necessary for salvation.
Denies pre-existence of the Word as the Son. Teaches that the He existed as the Father.
Being born again means repentance, baptism, and speaking in tongues.
Baptism must be administered by an ordained Oneness minister to be valid.
Baptism must be administered with the phrase, "In the name of Jesus" instead of the phrase, "In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit" (Matt. 28:19).
Speaking in tongues is a necessary requirement to demonstrate that a person has been baptized in the Holy Spirit, and is, therefore, saved. It is claimed to be the initial sign of the infilling of the Holy Ghost.
Restitution of all things, though the devil and the angels will not be restored.
Women may be pastors.
Only Oneness people will go to heaven.

The Pentecostals are called "holy rollers" but harmless. I would not choose this either. Jehovah's Witness's are ultra conservative and do not believe in saluting the flag and believe Jesus was killed on a straight stake instead of a cross. It is a fairly newer religion.
I would choose Lutheran just because I am a JS Bach fanatic. Try the brotherhood of the Masonic Lodge. It must be of your own free will and you would be following in the footsteps of many great men of history....including George Washington, Mozart, etc...It is a great institution. If you love God, He knows. worship and pray to Him alone if you wish, and study the Christian Bible. The Gideons Bible is widely accepted as a good Protestant Book.

Make an appointment with the pastor (or someone in leadership, if it's a large church) and tell them you may be interested in attending their church. Politely and respectfully ask some good questions. Don't ask in a challenging way, but simply to seek information. Ask how the church is organized. To whom or to what body is the individual church accountable? Ask why they choose to worship the way they do. Ask them to explain this style of worship to you. Apostolic Churches tend to be a little wild for me (I prefer a fold-the-hands church to a raise-the-hands church, personally, so I go to a quieter one) but it's only a presonal preference. They are just as scripturally sound as the more standard denominations -- moreso than some, truthfully. The fact that they worship differently doesn't mean they're wrong.

It isn't all about denomination, just ask God to show you what he wants and he will. I know how you feel, lots of times I wonder if I'm thinking something, or if God's showing me something or if the devil is deceiving me. It's hard to know sometimes but just pray about it, go with the church that is doing what the Bible says, and remember that no church is perfect. Good luck!

I wouldn't go to an Apostolic Pentecostal church because they are on the fringe of Christianity in many cases. Go to a good Baptist church or a non-denominational church like mine http://www.alcf.net

Sure, you want God to lead you to that portion of the body of Christ where He would have you to serve, but He is never in a hurry so why should you be? Just find a Bible teaching, Christ honoring, Spirit led church and show up and pray about it.

The thing about some Pentecostal churches is that you have to remember what John wrote about testing the spirits. The Holy Spirit is supposed to glorify Jesus not give gifts to people so that they can take center stage.

John 15:26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

John 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. (14) He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

1 John 4:1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

Eh, be skeptical of the skeptics. Most people look at some manifestations of the Holy Spirit and shout the word "cult" all over it. It's -EASY- to stay afar, and claim what you will about something. Investigate for yourself. Like Jesus said, "If Satan is casting out demons, then the Kingdom of Satan is divided against itself." I'd say go to a Vineyard, they're having -HUGE- revivals, the Holy Spirit is alive!!!

It really doesn't matter what anyone says about the Apostolic Pentecostals, you were there and it was not for you to want to come back.

Get yourself into the Bible. Read it everyday. I would like to help you, but too many people want to ignore my invitations. If you want to grow in the Lord, I know that I can help you, but you have to want it.

E-mail me if you want to talk. Otherwise, I'll think that you are another one of those people that are really just spouting steam.

Whatever denomination it is,make sure it's a Biblical one. Some people get caught up in pseudo-Christian cults, and you want to avoid that.
Many Pentecostal churches believe that if you have the Holy SPirit, you will be able to speak in tongues, which is not written in the Bible. In fact,Paul says that not all Christians are able to speak in tongues, and we each have our own spiritual gifts.
So,if you feel comfortable in a Pentecostal church,go for it.If you are feeling uneasy,go to a different denomination.
But let me reiterate again, make sure that your church is Biblically sound.
