If you are wrongly convicted, the state has an obligation you compensate you, 22 years what would your wages have been? Then there is the pain and suffering, if a person wrongs you don't you get a day in court, and if your case is proven are you not intitled to restatution, then why wouldn't a state be held to the same standards

22 years ago DNA evidence did not exist. The man was convicted on the basis of the evidence that existed then by a jury of his fellow citizens. The State of Georgia is not responsible for a jury decision, even when it makes a grievous mistake.

That being said, the state may well offer this man some sort of settlement.

I guess if you're a lady, it might be "easy street", but I'd hate to go to jail for 22 years personally... For guys, I imagine it would be a bit harder, especially since you'd go to a tougher jail for such a long sentence.

And they don't pay you, they just feed you, give you a crappy room, and you get limited entertainment... Then when your sentence is up... 100 bucks and the clothes on your back.

I think I'd probably kill myself if that were the case. But then they would think I was guilty. So maybe I'd just appeal and get a different lawyer who knows how to defend someone.

I wouldn't let myself be a victim even tho I was cause I wouldn't want the victim mentality that everyone owes me for my rough bump. I would take the money and use it to work at helping others who might be in prison that shouldn't be creating organizations or getting something going in the system to help prisoners and their families. I'd use my time to learn how to improve the system and get needed changes. I would use the money to start a life again but I figure it was given to me to use also.

I'd get a better lawyer, like the lawyer I had that settled my case when a semi hit me and my family won. But, I would not just sit there and take it, I would get my english degree in prison and once I got out, I would teach high school students not to end up there, to do better.

Most people who are in jail for a crime they didn't commit probably got away with many crimes so they kinda break even. There are very few truly innocent people in prison.
