Okay, so I live in Chicago, and it's a blizard outside the whole of today and tomorow. I live two blocks away from my school.
I walk home w/my babysitter.
Today school WAS NOT called off. Which is ridiculous. I walked home with my babysitter, and when I got home, I couldn't feel my face because it was icey and drenched with water from the ice.
Tomorow the day is going to be the same. If school isn't called off tomorow, is it okay to not go. Obviously my mom will know. I'm 13, and do stay home alone.
My mom asked if I REALLY wanted to go to school, and I did because I thought we'd be going to see this play. But we didn't see the play.
So, is it okay not to go to school tomorow?
I walk home everyday. My mom is a doctor and doesn't have time to drive me home.

There is something very wrong with all of this.......If your mother is a doctor, she can surely afford transportation for you to get home after school, even with your caregiver. To answer the question about going to school or not yes you need to go no matter what. Your school has a truancy limit and the more times you skip school could land your mother in trouble with the school for your not attending. You go to school every other day they dont have plays, so where is your thinking ? If the weather is the problem you need to talk to your mom about getting you a ride home instead of walking.

Just talk to your mom and tell her you want to stay home. If she gives you the ok, then stay home - if not, then go to school. Two blocks isn't really all that bad to walk in the cold. I used to walk a whole lot farther and also lived in a cold climate area.

Make sure that your mother knows your decision ahead of time. A snow storm is a good reason not to go to school. When I was your age, I ended up walking home alone because they closed the school after we arrived. I almost collapsed in the high snow drifts. My mother was so disappointed with the school's decision that she refused to let me go to school in bad weather after that.

When I was a kid, we had to walk 5 miles in each direction, in blizzards, and no coat. You couldn't feel your feet? We didn't HAVE feet when I was a kid, couldn't afford them. We wobbled to school on our stumps, with no shoes. Your face was icy and drenched with water? We had to swim through a lake filled with barricudas, and it wasn't easy, because we didn't have feet.
(Just kidding, of course. But quit whining. You are old enough to brave some bad weather to get to school. It won't be pleasant, but it won't kill you, either. This is good training for life. Go to school, no excuses.)

Talk it over with your mom, we can't give you permission to stay home! If you do have to go take an extra shawl & wrap it around your head leaving just your eyes free & a bit of room to breathe, don't worry about fashion :)

You sound smart and level-headed. I don't think missing 1 day of school is going to hurt you. Stay home & stay warm!

Yeah i think it's ok not to go to school for reasons like that now and then. And for where you said you had the choice to go and you said yes because of the play, I totally know how you feel. That happened to me. I said I needed to go because my group was having a get together to finish a project but they all forget their parts of the project so it was a wasted day!

yeah, if walking to school is a health hazard, than of course you should stay home. However, if you just don't want to go to school, you might want to reconsider.
