That depends on your skin type. I actually would suggest trying MD forte, since it is cheaper, and better than proactive. Proactive is only good if you have extremely oily skin. It dries up your skin, and that clears the acne. If you have combination skin, which assumes you have a T zone area that is oily, and dry skin around the forehead and cheek, you can try to buy a MD forte cleansing gel (usually about $20). Use it to watch your face would help tremendously. I would recommend the MD forte glycolic cleansing gel, since it is supposed to help with acne, and prevents future breakouts. You can also try to use neutrogena facial cleansing cream, but make sure you look for one that is for combination skin. You are going to have to try various different things to find what is best for you. Just make sure you are not using things that are too dry for you, because it will actually make acne worst, instead of solving it.

First try witch hazel from the dollar store or wal mart. Use a single cotton ball to clean each pimple and throw it out. then put a dab of an antibiotic ointment on each one with a clean q-tip for each one. Acne is bacteria and touching it spreads it. Alwsys pat skin dry, not rub. Also in the AM splash cold water on your face many times to cool it and balance the ph. Then use the witch hazel again but not the ointment (only use it at night). Always change the pillow cases to prevent spreading the bacteria and always wash your hands really well with hot soapy water before and after touching your face. If this doesn't work in two weeks go for the proactive. Good luck. Don't use anti plaque tooth paste, a lot of people break out from it's use.

Hi bunny.
I can't tell you about Proactive, but I can tell you what really worked for my son when he was 16-17. He had acne so bad that they called him "Pizza Face".
I am a Holistic Health Practitinor and was just starting out then (it was 1993). I had heard about tea tree oil and did some extensive research on it.
I got some tea tree oil and gave it to my son who began to use it right away. Within two weeks, his face had all cleared up from the acne, and even within 3 days, improvement could be seen.
Here's how to do it:
Get to a health food store and buy a bottle of tea tree oil. Most of them come in 1 oz containers.
In the evening, put a drop of the oil on your finger and dab it on the acne pimples. Make sure you get each one.
Leave the oil on over night.
In the morning, wash your face with WARM water. NOt cold, not hot.
THen put 3 drops of tea tree oil on your palm and mix it with a little warm water. Rub this on your face and leave it on.
This is a lot cheaper and more effective, with no side effects than anything else I've ever heard talked about in treating acne.
Also, consider that your skin needs water. Drink plenty of water!

It didn't work for me. I thought it was starting to but in the end it didn't and my problems just got worse.
I also tried tea tree oil and that didn't work either.

But I had a friend who said ProActive did work for her ... but it didn't give her a clear face. Just improved her acne.

In the end, I went to see a derma and took me a whole year to get it all under control using Diane-35 pills and Retin A cream. Till now, I'm still applying Retin A cream every so often cause I still have bumps appearing on my forehead and cheeks. But the medication seriously dried my face like mad and I was just peeling often. If you live in wintery conditions, that dries you up even more. And on top of it all, you become sensitive so you gotta stay away from the sun as much as you can.

YES YES YES.. but:

I got it cause ive tried everything.... u really have to stick with it and actually wash ur face day and night, with the 3step program im actually about to buy the mask too! But i seen results in about a week small ones, and within two i could really tell acne disapear! also, try not to drink pop, eat sugary foods, smoke or drink, wash ur hair often, and dont touch ur face alot bcause of the oils in ur hands transfer to ur face along with the other germs and dirt on ur hands! Give it atry, it couldnt hurt and goodluck!

proactiv works ok. i've used it in the past but really dried out and cracked my skin. I've since swithched to clearpores which works just as well but does not cause the redness and dried skin. Takes a couple of weeks to see results, but well worth it in my opinion.
