I was severely overweight at the age of 14 and I went vegetarian and I eliminated sodas and sweets and I lost 40 pounds. I went vegan a year ago and I've haven't lost much more. :)

I've been a vegetarian for years, and initially I did lose a lot of weight- I got down to 98 at 5'7, but I ate a lot of mean before going vegetarian. Since you say you don't really eat meat now, it probably won't have such a drastic impact, but the health benefits are awesome. Just be sure you're getting enough protein, and iron especially, because I became anemic a few years after going vegetarian. Hope that helps!

If you eat the right foods, such as vegetables and get a lot of protein, then yes, you will lose weight. I myself have been a vegetarian for 2 years now and I feel a lot healthier then I was while I was eating meat. But one of my friends, who is also a vegetarian, doesn't get a lot of protein and doesn't eat a lot of vegetables, this is very bad. Since you're not eating meat, your body needs another source of protein, which can also build muscle.

nursey, I don't want to sound offensive, but becoming a vegetarian/vegan does not necessary mean "more healtheir". There are plenty of people who are meat eater's, and are considered very healthy. It all comes down to what you eat. If you plan out your eating properly, and exercise then you can indeed lose fat weight effectively.

You will lose weight IF you eat as much as you consume, regardless of what you eat. I have a niece who is a vegan and is 15 lbs overweight, while I am no vegan and I am skinny.
Eat less and exercise more (bottom line).

There are dangers involved with becoming a veg, meats have many nutrients and proteins that are essential for the production of amino acids and cells in our body. If you do become one, be sure to do your research to find the plants that offer these nutrients.
