Could be a sty...or just an unfortunately ill-placed zit.

Here's some information about styes and how to treat them:
http://www.medicinenet.com/sty/article.htm

in that link it says:
What is the treatment for a sty?
Application of a warm compress or warm washcloth to the affected area for 10 minutes, 4 to 6 times a day, can speed rupture of the sty and aid in the relief of symptoms.

Does it look anything like the one in this pic?

If it is a stye then you can place a warm compress on your eye. Usually when I get a stye my eye closes and I can barely see everything.Maybe put the compress on twice a day or more if you like to.

As I was reading your question the first thing that came to mind was stye because I had that myself. Make-up will only irritate it though (I know because I tried that also). You need to keep the area as clean as possible, it will take a while (mine was almost a week to go away).
