Technically, he became an ex-president or a former president. As for what he did, he's worked with Habitat for Humanity (a charity that builds homes for people who need them), organized a think tank, served on various commissions including overseeing voting in other countries, and become a best selling author. He won the Nobel Peace Prize. He has written one novel, loosely based on his family history in the Revolution, and a number of nonfiction books, including ones on foreign policy, religion, growing up in Plains, and others. His latest book, about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict has been very controversial.
Interestingly, he and Gerald Ford, the man he defeated, became close friends and he spoke at Ford's funeral.

The Carters returned to Plains, facing what the president has called "an altogether new, unwanted, and potentially empty life." He taught classes at Emory University, wrote his presidential memoirs, spent many hours in his woodworking shop, and seemed poised to fade from view as quickly as he had risen in 1976. But even as President Reagan was re-elected in a landslide in 1984, Carter had begun to fashion his comeback. That year he began working with Habitat for Humanity, a Christian organization based down the road in Americus, Georgia, building houses for the poor. The image of a hammer-wielding former president riding a Trailways bus to New York and laboring to rebuild a tenement contrasted sharply with Reagan, and reminded many why they had liked Carter in the first place.

Jimmy has became one of the great ammbasadors for world peace and world hunger. He is involved with habitat for humanity and many other worthy causes. Although he was not a very good president, Jimmy was and remains one great fellow and an honest man. He was too nice to be the President and it showed.

An apologist for Islam. What else would a coward who hid himself in the White house become. The man (I use that term loosely) is a pitiful disgrace to his Naval uniform, and most recently, a complete moron when it comes to geo global politics (whoops, this must be an example of history repeating itself). I think Carter has a HUGE stash of Billy Beer hidden somewhere in a peanut field and he has nightly discussions with Hyman Rickover, (please don't tell Jimmy that Hyman is dead, he still doesn't know that his brother is gone).
However, I believe that history will judge president Carter a more effective leader than president Hillary Clinton.
I'm starting to scare myself.
Oh, one more thing, he is a Nazi sympathizer.
