I heard this on a tv program interviewing a mormon family and the husband of two wives said that black skinned people because of Cain's murder of Able, were cursed and made black. When he was asked about this he said he couldn't disagree with what was written. I guess this must be an isolated group.

HOW MANY TIMES DO I HAVE TO ANSWER THIS QUESTION??? Ex-Mormon...36 years as a Mormon. In the book of Mormon and the Mormons KJV, that they added stuff to, the people are cursed with dark or black skin, IE. Cain's curse is black skin, the war in heaven: The people on jesus side are white, the people half on satan's side and half on jesus side are half white/half black and the ones that are on satan's side are black. Blacks still become members tho i don't know why.

The people of African descent have ALWAYS been able to be baptized into the Mormon Church. Believe it or not, there were black members of the LDS faith who crossed the plains with the wagon trains. If Mr. Ed were to do his homework, he would see that there was no such revelation in the 1990's but simply a growth in the amount of missionaries in the amount of countries and areas in the world, leading to a higher number of convert baptisms, people who happen to be of African descent. In addition, I would question Mr. Ed's knowledge about the "miraculous glasses". Maybe he should verify information instead of becoming a horse's hind end.

But to you, oh seeker of information, check out the LDS church website. We don't discriminate. We have members in any country that will allow freedom of religion.

Mormons are not prejudiced against African Americans. There are plenty of black Mormons. Gladys Knight is Mormon, Thurl Baily (pro basketball player) just to name a couple you may know. There are hundreds of thousands of African Mormons all over the world. I'm sorry you have been led to believe we Mormons are prejudiced against African Americans. We lovingly accept anyone into our faith

Now I am told that racial slurs and denigrating remarks are sometimes heard among us. I remind you that no man who makes disparaging remarks concerning those of another race can consider himself a true disciple of Christ. Nor can he consider himself to be in harmony with the teachings of the Church of Christ. How can any man holding the Melchizedek Priesthood arrogantly assume that he is eligible for the priesthood whereas another who lives a righteous life but whose skin is of a different color is ineligible?

Throughout my service as a member of the First Presidency, I have recognized and spoken a number of times on the diversity we see in our society. It is all about us, and we must make an effort to accommodate that diversity.

Let us all recognize that each of us is a son or daughter of our Father in Heaven, who loves all of His children.

Brethren, there is no basis for racial hatred among the priesthood of this Church. If any within the sound of my voice is inclined to indulge in this, then let him go before the Lord and ask for forgiveness and be no more involved in such.

They are? Hmm...I don't know. I'm sure if they are, there's a passage in their bible to support this. Some racists use certain passages to rationalize their hate against anyone who thinks differently or looks differently than them.

Kinda weird really. If you supposedly love God, why would you love a God that created all different races of people? Oh well...another religious question I'll never know the answer to!

What they just said on ABC, they (the Mormons) think that African Americans are the
decedents of CAIN. Unbelievable

They think that they came from evil people a very long time ago. They think God put a curse on the evil people and turned them black. I have studied their cult a little bit in the past. They are weird.

Actually I believe they finally got a "revelation" in the 1990's, telling them it was okay to have African Americans in positions in the religion. They felt that the brown on Indians and the black on African Americans was the mark of a curse.
All based on a book that only Joseph Smith saw, that he was able to interpret wearing miraculous glasses that the angel Moroni lent him. (these are general memories of my reading a long time ago, but it goes something like that).

We are not, there is a misconception, but we love everyone! many of my best friends are African Americans, and we love them for who they are, and their rich culture. There are many members that are African Americans, and the Church is growing in Africa, there are many Leaders in African who do a wonderful job. We are not prejudice. I am hispanic and they have accpeted me. :-) Have a great day.

Hmm, interesting. Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever seen a black Mormon before. Then again, I've never seen black people go camping before either. Guess it's a "white" thing.
