Jimmy Carter tried to retire to his home and take it easy, However, he had a calling to help people and thats why he is famous. He works for the poor and in particular, the habitat for humanity. A great guy, a poor president. He also has went on peace missions for Reagen, the first Bush, Clinton and the present Bush and he has been very adept at doing that.

I don't consider Jimmy Carter "famous"; I do consider him known by the world because he is a former president of the US.

Jimmy Carter is famous because he was a president. He was also given the Noble Peace prize, for not fighting. But by not fighting he let people get slaughtered by their government, how's that for peace!

He is not famous. He is infamous. He completely failed to support the US military, and he locked himself in the whitehouse during the Iran Hostage crisis thinking that god would free the Marines instead of the US military. Once he finally acted, the rescue force that was put together crashed and burned because of a lack of leadership that started with the Commander in Chief, and ended with the death of troops under his command.

That is the (extremely) short story. The man is pitiful.
