The u.s. never had an exceptionally good standard of living, there are several countries that are higher than it on that list. Overcrowded schools in the inner city because of "lack of funds" which means of course that those funds are being used on space programs and an unnecessarily large defense budget. Even if we cut the defense budget by 150 billion dollars we'll still be about 180 billion dollars ahead of the nearest country. We're spending money on useless things and thats why we can't have adequate health care. If we weren't wasting so much money on useless things we could handle another 10 million illegals and STILL have money left over.
The day without an immigrant didn't really work out as planned, barely any people participated for fear of losing their job, they should have been fired then we would have seen the economy go down. Maybe that would have shown people how much immigrants (illegal or otherwise) affect the economy.

As many of us agree, "illegal" means ILLEGAL, so of course they should have to go.
If they have a better life here, they "should" stay as long as the US allows them to stay.
But we cannot just sit and complain about it, we have to DO something about it:
Border Security - keep out anyone who did not follow this country's laws and regulations for being allowed in
Round up and kick out illegals - like any and all crimes, the law must be enforced, need a secure border or they come right back in, in which case penalties should become stiffer and stiffer for every repeat offense
Deny government services to illegals - that's right, no emergency rooms, hospital care, police, firefighters, FEMA, traffic lights, nothing. If you don't pay taxes, you don't deserve any of them, because you are essentially stealing from the people that do.
Punish those who employ, smuggle, and harbor illegals - as with drugs, you have to work on the demand side of the problem too, not just the supply side. Anyone that encourages, profits from, and facilitates illegal activity is an accomplice/co-conspirator and must be punished.
LEGAL IMMIGRATION IS GREAT and what this country is based on. Quality people coming to join our society without excessively draining our resources. We have scarce resources, and cannot allow millions and millions of illegals into our country without eventually getting overwhelmed. Unfortunately, our border cannot be an open door to the rest of the world's billions of unfortunate people. Think about it, without immigration law enforcement, with open borders, how many of the world's poor would flock to live in the United States, and what then would our standard of living be? We would become just another third world country.
THERE needs to be a managed, qualified stream of legal immigration that helps this country strengthen, diversify and grow, of people who are qualified, screened, and meet the necessary standards and requirements. People who appreciate this country and what it stands for and will join in, not invade us in uneducated hordes to stay isolated, overwhelming US culture with their own through sheer force of numbers while taking advantage of government services (police, fire, medical, national security, etc.) without paying taxes.
AND we cannot be hypocrites, and we have to be prepared for the consequences, and we must act before the illegal population is so high that it overwhelms even our political system as their children vote in ever increasing numbers. We cannot make money or save money off of cheap illegal labor, whether it is agriculture, cleaning crews, construction, what have you, and then turn around and complain about higher expenses. Many greedy Americans happily profit off of illegals - Bank of America is now offering credit cards to illegals that have no social security numbers. Cell phone companies and banks are working out a system by which illegals can send money to their home countries via cell phones. Large corporations and farmers bus truckloads of illegals around to do things as cheaply as possible. We cannot cry if after cracking down on illegals we have to pay a few cents more as consumers per pound of vegetables, or for professional cleaning services, or for lawn care. Everything is a trade off and we cannot have it both ways.
I love America, my family came here as legal immigrants, as did most Americans' at some point. Land of the free, equal opportunity, public education, etc. If you love America and will follow the rules, I want you to come and work hard and enjoy our opportunity and make our country even better. If you sneak in illegally you are a criminal and need to be punished, along with anyone that helps you. I do not want to live in a third world country, or see my children or grandchildren living in a third world country, which is what will happen with uncontrolled illegal immigration.

The main cause of the ills of communities is a foolish, backward ignorance that does not have the lucid vision to see, or even care about, the future. There is an element found in all tribes of man and even within each of us that hails from fear and savagery that breeds that ignorance. That disease infects our civilizations and eventually destroys some. It destroys individuals, too, and causes wasted, vicious lives of spiritual morbidity. We rise above savagery, though. We rose above cannibalism, human sacrifice and slavery. We will also rise above this viscious spirit and ignorance of preying upon each other and learn the folly of it, of how it destroys our societies and ourselves. Wiser people know that to empower each other is better for everyone than to prey upon each other and succumb to the madness of greed and elitism. An example of such a savage and doomed concept has been our so-called "approach" to community development related to illegal immigrant workers in the U.S. Those who subscribe to this viscious paradigm criminally invite and hire and allow undocumented Mexican labor to come work and live in their communities in order to avoid paying Americans a legal and decent wage. They pay these guest workers poverty wages, making their families suffer added hardship as they struggle to rise, which is why they come to American communities . . .to rise. THEN, the vicious deny the children of those workers equal access to an education. They discriminate vulgarly against these families who are a part of their communities. They foil every single effort to empower them and help them transition into a new culture. Then, later, as their communities begin to fail and collapse under the stupidity and incompetence of intolerance and morally corrupt social "planning", the best that their diseased and doomed paradigm can do for them to "fix" the subsequent problems is to take Mexicans out into the desert and shoot them. Communities that rose above such savagery and ignorance, though, that more wisely addressed their communities realities and that more ethically treated fellow human beings, they are NOT suffering the collapse that communities that failed to treat each other with decency and forethought. What goes aroung, comes around. We are becoming globally connected. And, we are bumping into more and more people who are not like us, who do not speak our language, who do not share our spiritual thoughts. Adaptation and survival in the global economy requires pluralistic planning and adjustments in our communities and within ourselves, not vicious savagery of discrimination and selfish exclusion of segments of humans and their children from our schools and benefits of our societies. Immigration is an issue that soon becomes moot due to the North American Union between Canada, the U.S. and Mexico. We, economically and politically are erasing all the borders. People have a choice. They can wallow in the savageries of intolerance and discrimination, and subsequently flounder into terrible, shameful failure. Or, they can adapt, and rise to the challenges and changes with honor and decency. Tolerance and wisdom is necessary for the success of our communities and for us all to continue to prosper and enjoy our lives.

These are all problems that would exist even without immigration.
Make a list of all the good things that immigration has given us.

Lets see, there are about 300 million citizens and about 10 million illegals. Obviously, that 3% jump in population is the cause of ALL of the country's ills.
