It depends how flexible you can be. Its like rolling the dice to wait until the last minute, you might get a good deal or the dates you want are in demand and the price is too high. Genarally 3 months prior to the trip is a great time to book. Airlines have specials right around this time and you can wait for a special but have plenty of time to book if the special does not come through. Less than a month away is when things get sticky. Some airlines have 21 or 14 day cut offs and then the price becomes absolutely outrageous. Right before the cut offs you might see a fantastic sale but you have to decide if its really worth it to wait and what would happen if that great price doesn't happen. So I'd say look to seriously book your flight 2-4 months in advance. Not super early but not last minute either.

AS SOON AS POSSIBLE is always the cheapest. You should try purchasing your ticket at least 1 month in advance, 2 months in advance if possible. You are guaranteed to get good, cheaper deals this way. Also, a much better chance with a non-stop flight depending on your destination.

Having tracked this a little bit on my own, I found that the cost to purchase date graph is actually an upside down shaped curve, like a cup.

Early on (like months early,) it seems airlines post the standard rate. As it gets to about a month or a couple of weeks away, they lower prices on dates they are not thinking they will fill the flights. But when it comes to last minute, they know they have got you by the you-know-what and price is at the highest. This is the usual case, at least from what I can tell.

Theres a lot of variables involved, a lot of times by booking a last minute flight you can get a great deal because they are trying to fill up. However, if it was already near full then there's a good chance you're going to be paying more or what you would a week before.

If you are planning an important trip, its advisable for you to book as far ahead as possible to make sure that you have plenty of time to shop for the best rates.

this question is asked right here each and all of the time, do a seek and spot. the respond is often the comparable. There are no decrease priced, on the day flights. in reality if there are seats obtainable, and bear in mind maximum airways over e book flights, they are going to be on the top rate fee. the faster you e book a flight, the better that's to locate deals. The closer the departure time, the dearer the flight. it is quite logical incredibly, why would airways schedule flights in the event that they have no theory what number human beings would be vacationing? Why possibility time and funds hoping adequate human beings will ensue on the day? airways generally cancel scheduled flights that have unfavorable passenger bookings, they'd make a large loss in any different case. that's additionally why airways over e book flights, they p.c. finished potential and comprehend a share of passengers in no way ensue for his or her flights.

As soon as possible in most cases but some airlines will offer "last minute fares" on flights they can't fill. You'll find cheaper rates by flying during the week, Tues, Wed, Thurs. Early in the morning and late in the eve flights are discounted too. If you are close to multiple airports try them as well.

As soon as possible is usually best, but sometimes they start of with high prices and lower them as time goes on because they were thinking that it was going to be a popular time to travel. My suggestion, monitor the prices for at least three days before buying. That way you know if they are going up or down.

I watch for specials and buy when I think it's a good price.

However, usually, I buy and the following day another special is released and there are even cheaper seats.

Such is life.
