The stereotype is there because of ignorance. That's why it's a stereotype. Some people assume Wicca is witchcraft and they equate witchcraft with evil. If they read a bit more about it, they'd find it wasn't evil at all. I'm fairly certain ALL Christians don't have the 'my way' attitude. When I was a Christian, I didn't feel this way at all. That's part of the reason I left that religion. Still, that's an unfair generalization. See how easy it is to think a certain type of person is a certain way? You don't want people doing that to you, don't keep the intolerance alive. That being said, Wicca isn't evil. Try sharing your ideas with some people if they can't handle it, their loss. As long as you're not hurting anyone, live your life and ignore the ones who want to cram their religion down your throat.

If they're Christians, the chances are that from their point of view, it IS Satanism.
Let me explain. If you believe that your religion is the only way to God, and that all other religions are false, then it's not much of a leap from there to conclude that the Gods other religions worship are not Gods at all, but in fact aspects of Satan, the anti-God. I don't agree with it, but it does make sense if you're operating within the Christian framework.
From a sociological point of view, on the other hand, Wicca is nothing like Satanism. We do not acknowledge the God/Satan cosmology (which Christianity sort of stole from the Zoroastrians anyway). We have no equivalant figure to Satan in our theology. As far as we're concerned, the powers that we work with are Divine powers, aspects of Goddess/God which are beneficial, balanced, and rightly a part of the universe.
The "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" line has caused more headaches for Wiccans than just about anything in Christian canon. Never mind that it's a mistranslation in the first place; Christians hear the word "Wicca", associate it with witchcraft (which not all Wiccans practice), and proceed to get Bronze Age on our behinds. When they do this, I try to politely point out (again) that we do not worship any being like Satan, that as far as we're concerned all power flows from the Goddess/God, and that while witchcraft has no "good" or "bad" orientation (like prayer, it can be used to bring about all sorts of things depending on the person using it), as Wiccans we are bound by the Wiccan Rede: "If it harm none, do what you will". Yes, there are witches out there who curse and overtly bind, but as Wiccans we steer clear of such things as a rule.
The only similarity between Wicca and Satanism, from a non-Christian point of view, is in the minds of some Christians. Which is a pity. I think the mutual animosity means that we're both missing out on learning from each other.

Okay. Let's examine your question.
You volunteered that you are a Wiccan.
You informed everyone that you don't like Christians because according to you they have a 'my way or the highway attitude'.
You then stated that everyone should be allowed to think what they want.
So why can't Christians think you're Wiccan religion is Satanic?
I'm guessing you haven't lived outside a predominately Christian culture. If you moved to Iran do you think your religion would be accepted or even tolerated? If there were such a thing as a Wiccan country, would they tolerate Christianity as much as it is tolerated where you are?
So before you announce your annoyance with Christians, try appreciating that they don't stop you from practicing your religion.
It is historical fact that 'witches' used to burned at the stake, drowned and tortured in the US. But now in most major cities, you can paint yourself white, wear a pointy hat and walk around with a Satanic Bible and no one could care less.
It is our Christian nation which protects your freedom of speech. How about allowing Christians to speak freely, even if it is about you?

Because for so long witches were considered evil, demons and the like so even though the name of the game has changed peoples thoughts havent.
Paganism is paganism. The bible teaches no matter who is worshiped or not worshiped it is still the work of the devil.
Even though I am a Christian I dont really care what other people do no matter what you think someone else is always going to think it's wrong. I.E. I may think it is silly for you to want magic powers to curse somebody or fly on a broomstick but your gonna think I'm crazy for praying to some being that no one has ever seen and for the last who knows how many years has heard and let his own son be murdered to save the souls of every other person who will ever live. The point is ignorance from lack of wanting to understand is the cause.

It really isn't satanism. The people who say it is are misunderstanding it. Wiccan people do witchcraft, yes, but, It's energy transformation. Wiccans take negative energy and transform it into light or positive energy. In Wiccanism, you have a divine god or goddess. It can be whatever is divine to you. Mine is the Christian God. You use your divinity to help transform the energy around you. You aren't worshiping the devil by doing spells. A lot of Wicca and Paganism is associated with the devil. For instance the pentacle, inverted is the sign of the devil. Right side up, however, it is a symbol of protection. Most Wiccans wear Pentacle on a necklace as an amulet. And we do not fly broomstick and wave magic wands and make things happen like that. That is Hollywood witchcraft. Real spells take time. The people who practice Necromancy are the ones who will hurt you, and Wiccans certainly don't practice Black Magick. The people who judge us immediately are the ones who are afraid of what they don't kow. That is perfectly acceptable. It is in the human nature to be frightened by the unknown. It is also in the human nature to jump to conclusions. Wiccans normally try to be accepting to other beliefs, there are a couple of different ones. All the sisters in my coven are very accepting to many different religions. In fact a few of us (including myself) attend church on a regular basis. The only people we DON'T accept are the Satanists, because we are highly indignant that it is them who have given us a bad name. They believe witchcraft is curses and hexes, but we don't curse people. We don't do spells to harm other people. We do spells to PROTECT other people who are in harm's way. Now it is a bit of a stereotype to say all Christians stereotype us, because they don't. Many are actually very accepting to us and our religion. But we will be here, people can't kill out Wicca by calling us-- what was it? Stupid and fruity? We are at peace with where we are, and we aren't hurting anyone, so what are people getting out of telling us we are going to burn in hell? After all, we could be wrong, but then again, so could you...

Wicca is different for those people who are ignorant- the Wicca use the Pentagram or Pentacles with the main star tip pointed upwards; whereas, Satanists, have the main point upside down and the other two points facing upwards! I agree- can't people have what they want in what is suppose to be a free democratic unbiased society? From my experience, like your's, the answer is clearly no! These people need to be identified, rounded up, and put in their place until they leave the rest of us lone and quite playing God with other peoples' lives! They are mentally ill and sick in the head!

In the late 1800's, there was a sort of revival in the ancient gods, specifically Pan and Cernunnos. The church countered it with picking up the images of the horned gods and gave Satan horns. Previous to this time period, Satan was generally a man, no horns, sometimes bald.
So, Christians today see the "Horned God"s as devils.
On a smaller level, though, even if there are Christian witches (preists who banish spirits, with candles and incense? Sounds like witchcraft to me), and Jewish Witches and mystism, and even if not all Wiccans practice witchcraft, most have grown up to believe that Witchcraft is evil.
However, most of the spells Wiccans do have a lot in common with just simple prayers, but with props.

There are several possible reasons.
1) They are uninformed. Wiccans do not believe in the existence of Satan.
2) They are fearful of anything unfamiliar and think that anything outside their own church is not 100% legitimate. Basic paranoia.
3) They believe Wiccans are unintentionally worshiping Satan or demons (perhaps demons disguised as angels or beings of light) because of the use of idol worship in Wicca.
Idolatry is forbidden in the Bible, as is the use of "other gods". Also, black magick is clearly forbidden in the Bible, as is necromancy. Historically, a witch was viewed as someone who practiced black magick. See also Leviticus 20:27, which states that mediums and spiritists were to be executed in the nation of Israel. King Saul was criticized by prophet Samuel for consulting a medium in I Samuel 28. Samuel's first words to Saul, "Why have you disturbed me by bringing me up?" This shows he did not take kindly to being awakened. Then, Samuel pointed out that Saul was not in God's favor, had not obeyed the Lord and would not succeed.
4) Some people think that Wiccans have an anti-Christian attitude. Then again, some do.
5) You never know...Luke 9:49-50 "Master, said John, we saw a man driving out demons in your name and we tried to stop him, because he is not one of us. Do not stop him, Jesus replied, for whoever is not against you is for you."

I so agree with you!!!! I think too many christians (though not all) try to push their beliefs on others more than any other religion does. I don't think wicca is satanism. I think they are very different. Wiccans do not worship satan as many believe. Not all wiccans eveb BELIEVE in satan. We all believe in different things for different reasons and I'm open to equally concidering and accepting all of them. Some people are just too close minded.

Because they aren't using the term "satanism" as the religion Satanism. They're talking about believing in Satan, which they believe is any religion other than their own. I also don't understand that attitude, especially since that is not the true Christian way. Most of the people who truly believe Christianity is the only religion people should be able to follow are bigoted and don't know enough about their own Savior.
